Advise please, re gardiner pole
« on: January 23, 2019, 11:00:08 am »
I'm waiting for a call back from gardiners but in the meantime would appreciate any advice. I have a brand new 18ft clx, I've always used gardiners poles but with this one I'm having a mare getting the gooseneck to fit into the top section. I know their always a bit stiff with a new pole but this one's a bugger. It's not a new gooseneck so I know it's not the problem. I've wet the pole, +gooseneck, I've taken the clamp off and forced the clamp as far as I dare, I've tried lubricating the gooseneck and inside the top of the pole but it will only go in 1 inch and won't budge in either direction now. Never had one this tight. Anything else I can try?

Hi Nick

Is this the pole you bought back in October? Was it like this from new?

Have you tried fitting the gooseneck that came with the pole?

Have you looked down the top of the pole? Are there any ridges where the clamp meets the section? Very occasionally excess glue can form here and prevent the gooseneck from sliding in - if this is the case (you can feel this ridge with a fingertip) then it can usually be picked off with a sharp knife point (kitchen knife type) and the gooseneck should then slide in.

If it is not this then, when the Customer Service Team get back to you they will probably ask for some photos which you can upload via a weblink - these would be useful so we can check the items for any obvious issues.

I have had this issue with a plastic gooseneck. It would fit my slx 25 but not the slx 22 (It would fit if I forced it, but I did not like having to apply excess force).

I just spent a few minutes with a piece of sand paper on the gooseneck to get it to fit.

Hi Alex, thanks for replying. It is the pole I bought in October but this morning was the 1st time out of its box. Will check for the things you mentioned when I get home. Its not the new gooseneck but one from my old clx which sadly passed away yesterday after nearly 3 yrs of use (not bad eh). Cheers nick

Thanks for replying, I've got 3 goosenecks with different brushes attached so if I can get it out, I'll try them all and see if sandpapering will help.

The neck on my gardiner pole is jammed solid, doesn't even need a clamp on it. Was like it when i bought it years ago, cant be bothered to complain about it, i can still clean windows with it so...doesnt matter to me

It might be a problem if you need to change your pole hose, or like me have your brushes already attached to a gooseneck so you just swap them over when needed.

That is why I wanted to be able to remove my gooseneck.

1 The pole should outlast the pole hose
2 If the hose comes loose of the jg connector inside the pole near the gooseneck.

Use Copaslip on the part of the goosneck that goes into the pole. Makes it easier to get the gooseneck in & out.

The plastic goose necks absorb water and swell that’s probably why it won’t fit ,put it on a hot radiator fir a couple of hours then try it I bet it will then fit , usually they are difficult to remove from the pole due to water absorption , if you warm them up with a heat gun they will usually come out , it’s a long standing issue I have experienced it many times with all my poles and the majority of plastic goose necks

As this is a relatively new pole, the new gooseneck supplied with the pole should fit well. If it doesn't then it sounds like an actual construction issue.

The gooseneck shaft was redesigned last year and now has grooves incorporated in the shaft length which allows for expansion and contraction with heat and moisture absorption. I would imagine that Nick's new gooseneck is one of the new design.

The new one was actually the old type, no grooves. I've managed to extract the old gooseneck and tried the new one which came with it and it does fit a little easier but still not easy by any means. There's no obvious glue blocking it, I think it's just a manufacture thing. I've spent time sanding the two old goosenecks and hopefully that will be ok with them. I'll see how I get on when I need to change the brush head. Looks like I could do with the newer type goosenecks.

Looking at your order I think that the gooseneck you bought with this pole was the longer version - these changed over probably a few months later on the base part.

I will get a new base part sent out to you & then you can try it out. If it is still difficult to insert then it will be something up with the pole and we can then look at getting the whole pole and gooseneck back to see what the issue is.
