The only debts I get occasionally are from new customers. You know the ones ..... pay you on first visit, agree to regular, clean next time, not home, don't send payment. I'll text them reminder before next clean and request to reply before I turn up again. A few just ignore it, they get dumped straight away.  Unless its a lot to lose I don't chase it further, really can't be bothered. They've shown their true colours and its not worth my energy when I've plenty of work and good payers to concentrate on. Some may think it foolish but I used to let it wind me up, now it doesn't and I'm happier for it .... doesn't happen a lot mind, just once in a while.

I reckon it's always important to remain professional and business like in these matters, and NEVER lose your cool.
Im usually fairly lenient within reason, and always try to be mindful of people having Holiday's and possible family bereavements etc. which might of happened along the way.
I had a weird one last year where the woman had always been a good payer, always made a cup of tea and tipped at Christmas etc.
Then i did an inside and out window clean plus conservatory roof clean and billed her the £100.
Weeks went by and no payment received, sent her a text and eventually received a reply telling me she would pay me, but nothing came through.
Another few weeks went by so i contacted her again.
I received a text message with an apology and the lady telling me that she had gone off the rails a bit and was trying to sort herself out. Payment followed shortly after.
My instinct told me she was telling the truth as i had known her for maybe 3 or 4 years and she was always gold as gold.
Fast forward to this year and i was cleaning for her again....
During conversation over a cup of tea she told me that last year her Gardener was found hanging from a tree in the local woods (suicide), and the Police had found something at this fellas house that led them to believe he was having a relationship with her and that maybe she had something to do with his death.
Apparently she had given him a David Gray CD once.
She was interviewed a few times and the Police would turn up at all hours of the day or night, even suggesting they might have to excavate her newly laid rear patio?!!
Suffice to say nothing came of the Police investigation and it was ruled suicide but it turned her life upside down and i would assume that making sure the window cleaner had been paid was probably low down on her list of priorities.

I have several that I constantly have to chase. Fingers crossed they all pay , but it drives me mad that I have to badger the same people month in month out to get paid. Would you dump or keep them as they all pay in the end?
Thanks, Phil.

we all have these type of customers(only a few here and there)....they pay in the end so i keep them on if it suits me(if the job is down a road where i already clean a lot of properties for example)......i just see it as "money in the bank" when im owed money....i have thousands of pounds that ive built up in various bank accounts so it doesnt matter whether they pay me today or next month,im not in need of the money straight away and with interest rates being so low it makes ZERO difference to me if they pay late....

really?i find it hard to believe you dont have to remind some customers to pay you online unless their on gocardless!its easy for customers to forget in these busy times i find......most pay up within 24 hours once ive sent a text reminder......others a few days later......

Seriously daz , I make it clear from the beginning pay within 5 days or set up a standing order at the beginning of the month. These few are next door to work I have but if these people haven’t got the decency to pay me after txting them the night before, leaving a slip and txt reminder every month, then I can’t be arsed with them anymore. All the rest are fantastic payers

I agree with daz though, get some brass put aside then relax a bit over when you get paid...as long as you get paid that is.
