I dont know why the surprise
Minimum wage is £7.83 or £62.64 an 8 hour day.
People do live on this and in some cases live fairly well depending what other beneifts they are entitled to.
£75 a day is over £9 an hour, a very respectable wage at least here in the north.
The only reason we "couldnt live on those peanuts" is because we are used to earning more.
I am 36, until 4 years ago when i started window cleaning...so since i left school... i never earned more than £8 a n hour. I didnt see myself as poor or skint.
As an example, you could have a couple with say 3 kids, one not working and the other doing say 15k a year and you could get that topped up to say 25k in housing benefit, child tax credits, working tax credits and child benefits. Not to mention things such as free dentists, prescriptions, eye tests, school meals etc.
