Any thoughts on cleaning this mess?
« on: November 05, 2018, 11:58:45 am »
Ok looking at this today, not really sure if it can be done - new tarmac car park with concrete splatter on it - they have Kindly left it 2 weeks before deciding that it needs cleaning  :(  the owners of the car park are not best pleased

I have some chemical that breaks down concrete but I really don't know if I have a hope of getting it off its well stuck on and in

thoughts and advice welcome

I would pre wet it with clean water then try a sample test area using a mono speed rotary fitted with a soft to medium brush using phosphoric acid or similar.  If it works just rinse and wash afterwards.  If you really want to go OTT you could use tarmac restorer as well.

cheers Kev - thought you might come up with a solution - wasn't sure if a rotary would be man enough

being a bit lazy here - do you sell phosphoric acid ?

cheers

Yes but regardless do a test first.  The issue with cleaning concrete is whether it has additives in it to make it flexible.  If this is the case then the polymers may have risen to the surface which renders the phos acid as useless.  This is because the concrete has like a protective cling film on the top.  A bit like trying to wash your dirty hands with rubber gloves on.

Unfortunately not - stuck like S**t to a blanket - the concrete is absolutely rock hard - it is the foundations for a 4 storey hotel.

Shame, I thought it might have come off - never mind

Did you try a rotary with a brush and some acid?

Probebly the best bet it to get it resurfaced and bill the offending company that spilt it in the first place , although that won’t mean any work for you it’s the best result for the customer

That was my recommendation - I charged a non returnable deposit, so not out of pocket and of course got to try out something different.

Disappointed  in as much I hate to being able to deliver a finished job for them, but next time they won’t leave it 3 weeks before deciding to have it cleaned.  I’m sure a few buckets of water on the day would have been sufficient to clean it off
