New trad competition in area
« on: October 31, 2018, 03:35:33 pm »
Spotted these lands further down the road where I was working. At first glance I thought, they've made some effort as they have matching jumpers with the company name on. But that's where it ended lol.
Bucket on belts,,,,, check
Scrims over the shoulders.,,,,,,,check
Three to clean windows, with one ladders,,,,,, check
Two to stand about talking whilst ones upstairs cleaning,,,,,,, check

Hopefully they might stick it out, buti rarely see trad lads in areas where I am now as most are wfp.
Wonder if I should tell them about H-man 😏

Someone should at least foot the ladder to make themselves look useful why not extend the ladder instead of stretching. Windows like that I would have put the ladder on the upvc bar on the middle window and got the five off the one climb with a foot on the window cill for extra safety!

I remember them type bays when I did traditional work.

So labour intensive, depending on the size it could be 3 pitches of the ladder, NIGHTMARE  :)

They have; they have two stand off's on the ground watching.

There's probably been an influx of drug dealers on their patch, driving them into other sources of income.

I wouldn't knock them, fair play for having a go.
I started with a clapped out Datsun Cherry hatchback, a borrowed ladder, four scrims, an upright water bucket, zero work and a fortnightly (legal) dole cheque.

It was actually a 'W' reg, manufactured in 1981.  I didn't get my hands on it until about 1988 and never used it for window cleaning until 1991.  It was a very high mileage vehicle when I acquired it and the engine began playing up in 1992.  A guy I knew came with me to buy my first van (a three-year-old Nissan Sunny).  We struck a deal that if he could haggle the price down a bit, he could have the Cherry (he knew how to fit new engines).  He saved me £125 on the deal and I gave him the car.  He never did change the engine as it was still a runner, though lumpy.  He used it for three months and the gearbox went too.  He was happy though because he had a 50 mile round trip to make three days a week and it saved him loads on train fare.
