Custards dont get it
« on: August 20, 2018, 04:02:47 pm »
Doing  my rural run today.  Just did a farmhouse right in the middle of nowhere 2nd clean she was made up with first clean.  £30 job but its a 20-25 min round trip just getting there so job needs to be 10-15 mins max and even then i aint happy tbh.

Explained i was charging extra due to travel and she was happy with all that.  Today she said im sorry i cant pay you £30 for 10 mins work.  I said i dont blame you but you need to factor travel time into the price.  Travel time is more than price of the job!!

She said no its fine im not paying this il find somebody else.  So i explained my costs and wished her well as i was happy to see her gone tbh.

Oh she also told me i was the first window cleaner she found in 10 years and previous to that the council would clean her windows inside and out for £8( theres atleast 14 windows)

Goodluck to her  ;D ;D ;D

I have a lot of rural work and I always factor in the travel time etc and charge accordingly we have to or would be working for free. Some customers are fine with this and some aren't some I get and some I don't.

I do quite a few properties out in the sticks. Not only do you need to charge extra for travelling time.  Also:

  • Wear & tear on the van driving down bumpy/dirty tracks. I've had all my coil springs upgraded to heavy duty recently.
  • Fly poo on UPVC frames which is at it's worst this time of year - particularly on cattle farms. On one farm in particular parts of the frames are black with fly poo.

About a year ago I was contacted a out cleaning windows on this house (that's a suprise I hear you say 😂).   Went out and priced the job up.    She thought about it and said I suppose that covers the travel costs and business costs as well. She said this with a positive tone and not sarcastically, as her other non reliable cleaners were much cheaper and she couldn't understand how they could run a business like that.   Wow, I was so happy to have a customer who simply gets it, it's great! When that happens

I’m getting more philosophical about customers. Following my “reach out” a couple of weeks ago I’ve made a huge effort to not let them get to me. A huge improvement in my attitude.

i try and take this attitude with life in general anymore and try and stay focused on the positive.
I've been listening to a couple of books on audible recently.."the magic of thinking big"  although i dont really buy into the american think big be rich sort of thing this guy makes a lot of interesting and fair points and its more about the attitude of your thinking then anything else perhaps a little dated now but the basics are really good and its worth a listen  and the "subtle art of not giving a **ck" also worth a listen.

i always charge more for stand alone larger properties...they can take it or leave it....most of them have brand new range rovers, porsches, lamborginis, etc on the drive.one of my customers even has a mclaren F4 ! :)

these customers are minted.....if they dont want to pay a fair price for their windows to be cleaned(so i can have a diesel hot water system, electric PF reel, xtreme poles and a brand new GOLF GTD on my drive)they can get someone else! ;D

i always say if they refuse my price   (my ambition is not to be the cheapest window cleaner in the area!) 8)

price higher/work harder!

Don’t waste time , especially if your books are full pal

1 £20 changed to every 2 months for £30

1 £12-£13 - no problem
