I can recommend Sumup as another way to take payment using a mobile card reader. It makes you look more professional taking electronic payments rather than cash or cheques. It's a great bit of kit and easy.

It's a good idea to let customers decide which payment method they prefer.

I use the Sum Up card reader to take payments by card on the road.  Really low rates less than 1.69% with no fixed fee or monthly fee.  Much better and cheaper than paypal. You can also take payments over the phone too.

The card reader can be purchase with a discount using this link reduced from £30 to just £15.   ( also helps me with referral reward   )

http://fbuy.me/f7Ve3

You can swipe cards or use chip and pin option or contactless payments. It's fab.

Once you take payment you then can put the customers email or phone number in the app and it will either text or email the receipt straight away for them. Works a treat.

Just use your own card to test it out when you get it first to see how it works. Just take £1 on your own card

All in the post mate. No monthly costs at all. Just the 1.69% transaction fee.

My customers love it.

It works with all debit and credit cards including  amex. Uses chip and pin for large amounts or contacless if under £30.

As long as you have a mobile phone signal you will be fine.  You have to use the app on your phone to operate it.  It connects to the terminal using blue tooth and connects for authorisation using phone data. Very little data is used.   If you are in a bad signal area which has happened once for me I just asked customer for their WiFi details.  They were fine with this as they already new signal was bad at their house.

I take mine out every day with me. It only wallet size. Had it about a year now and only had to charge it twice.

ive had a few customers who ve asked me lately  whether i have a card reader.i already offer cash/cheque/BACS/standing order as payment methods..BACS is my preferred method of payment TBH....

no current method of payments incur any extra charges.i still get a fair few cheques and they take 6 working days to clear but from the 24th sept next month theyll take 1 working day to clear which is great......

ive toyed with the idea of gocardless but not put it into action.id have to pay more a month for full gocardless integration with cleaner planner plus the ongoing charges for every transaction.....

i dont like the idea that people make money out of me for simply getting paid! ;D

my debt list is manageable as a one man band but if i employed id probably have a card reader and gocardless!

Hi dazmond, i have the Sumup card which i use occasionally, as i don't accept cheques anymore, i find it really good
and easy to use, and the customers like it, i keep it in the van all the time just in case a customer doesn't have cash,
the payments clear in my bank within 2 Days, i highly recommend it dazmond, safer then cheques.  :)

Little tip too to avoid teething probs. Make sure your phones location it turned on.   It needs it.

Also practice with your own card to see how it works.  Just take £1.00 test transactions and do it outside of your WiFi.

When I use my machine I aways grab it from van and turn it on straight away and turn on the mobile app. It will save time connecting when with the customer.

I use PayPal here, and whilst its not the most popular option; it is the fastest to get paid.

I can take payments from all credit/debit cards including AMEX and Diners

The money is in my business bank account the very second I take the payment from their card. Its really well worth considering.

Last month I  processed £1125 in credit/debit card payments and the total cost for collecting that was £31 so  2.75 % on average
