Is there any free business banking out there now ? I am currently being charged between 90/120  per month for business banking. It's around 35p per online payment and cheque paid in etc ?

Santander is free for first 18 months then £7.50 a month, ive never been charged extra for paying anything in either. Cheques and online payment etc is free, there is a cash limit of £1k , you pay more for a higher cash limit.

I left Yorkshire Bank because they were charging me £60/£70 a month last year. They said no discounts were available.

I think you just have to keep looking around and change when required a bit car insurance they will have a great deal one year but not the next

The issue is informing customers of course. We moved from Santander to Nat West to Santander again. The Nat West fees were going to be £3-400 a month.

The Santander app is rubbish, paying in is a pain often taking 10-15 minutes at the machine and the search facility for transactions on the website is rubbish. You get what you pay for I guess.

As a sole trader you don't really need one, I just think it's nice to have things separate and also if dealing with commercial nice to have them pay into a business name rather than personal.

Of course if going ltd its much more important to have things seperated.

you cant keep changing your bank details for online paying customers though can you?

just dont open a business bank account then you wont get any  charges....

Yes as go- cardless you control where the money goes customers don’t even know the account has moved

We have a few,maybe a dozen standing orders left but we offered them a half price clean to change over to GC

and those that ring up to pay again don’t know what account the money goes to

Just had to change bank details on clean cards etc but that’s no big issue

I have a separate personal account which customers pay into and then transfer any profit into my main account. Suppose I’m just stingy and don’t want to pay £7.50 a month

I've just had to change my account last month from going ltd.

All customers told of the change yet still a large percentage have ignored me and still paying into old account. Think it will be sometime yet before I get them all onto the new details.

So far I'm really glad I went ltd as it keeps everything separate, just take a salary and the rest stays in the company. Often when I was sole trader It all got mixed into one and was hard to see what was what.

i use lloyds personal account for years with no problem , the mobile app also means you can take a photo of your cheques and deposit them like that no need to actually go to the bank anymore

Santander is £15 a month or something, but it's a pretty basic service.

I had problems with santander in the past (they paid all my staff twice for some reason).

The Bank of Scotland (Halifax for you lot) looks like a good option.



My only issue would be cheques, I got 343 of them in July. Been meaning to phase them out anyway....

Im with Barclays. The tarrif i am on is the digital tarrif. No fees for electronic transfers and payments received. I get charged for cash, but im not bothered because i am phasing out cash all togther as of April 2019. Most of my payments are BACS, CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS, AND DIRECT DEBITS.  And when i employ, cash will no longer be accepted as a form of payment.  Sorry for shouting there..can't br bothered to alter it.

Oh and you get a loyalty bonus credited to your account every month.
