tds readings
« on: June 23, 2006, 10:28:56 pm »
Goodevening everyone.

This may seem a silly question but, what is an acceptable tds reading? I only have a small round, bought a water fed pole setup and a 100 gpd filter system. The first reading i took was 26 tds and it averages around that.
Is that good or bad?
Should I upgrade to 200 gpd?
Would this take the tds reading down?

Sorry for all the questions.

Regards

Barry

Bad
With a TDS of 26 thats to high to clean windows with.
Do you have a D/I vessel to take the water down to 000
If not you really need one it only has to be a small one.

Don't really know anything about the ro systems as I just use a di vessel to putify my water.

It comes out of the tap at 028ppm and passes through the di vessel and reads 000ppm.

I DON'T CARE what some people say but pure water window cleaning should mean what it says! "PURE WATER"

If it's not 000ppm it's not pure water is it????

I never work with water above 001ppm but some people clean with 008ppm +

The choice is yours!

Hi paul

Yeah I do have 10 inch di resin tub. Should I get a bigger one?
I forgot to mention from the tap it reads 231 ppm

Is the reading of 26ppm after the water has come through your 10inch di vessel?

Hi Barry

Sounds like your DI resin is spent and needs changing.

Also thats quite a high reading from the RO..  disconnect toe RO from the DI and see what the reading is BEFORE the DI. If your resin has been spent for a while it will contaminate the water from the RO. Also might be worth checking the accuracy of your TDS meter if you havent had the system for very long.

Hi Andrew

So if my first ever reading was 26 when I first bought the 100 gpd filter system, in an area where water from the tap is 220+. Does that mean the filter system is faulty? or do I need a bigger filter system?

My TDS is 380 and after R/O is 006 then 000 after D/I.

I would do as andrew has said.
Check your TDS reading after the R/O and before the D/I
If its high there then i would back flush the R/O filters.

I also suspect you resin is used and need replacing.
And i bet you TDS higher after your d/i than it is after your R/O.

No Barry.

If your first ever reading was 26 and the RO/Di was set up correctly the reading should be 000  Even without the RO just passing the water through the DI would purify it..  My bet is that your TDS meter is reading wrong.

Please dont be offended barry but.. your DI is AFTER your RO isnt it?  I've know one or two who have had the DI before the RO...  :(

Check you have your cartridge in the right way in your D/I
If its upside down it will be high.
I have put it in the wrong way myself and it was really puzzling me why the TDS was high.

No offence taken Andrew.
Yes my di is after the ro system.

What do mean paul by the di being upside down? The di came ready assembled.
All I can say it looks like tiny amber balls half way down and darkness the other half.

Im on about the cartridge inside the housing but if it came pre-assembled no doubt its the right way up.

sounds like the resin is used as when its new it should all be a dark colour all the way through and when its used its lighter in the top half.
