Pure water, make your own or buy.
« on: May 30, 2018, 06:11:02 pm »
As it says, who buys who makes. Just being nosey.
I made my own for years but have recently gone over to buying, though admittedly from a water business I'm a part owner of.

Got to say it is better just filling up at the unit, when I had the RO at home I was always fiddling with it, now I've got it all automated in the unit in Westgate, Kent when I get home I'm done I don't fiddle any more. :)

So who buys pure water on here? or makes their own.

I'm very envious of that. Down here in Kent my tap tds is 380!

Ro
I previously purchased water from the guy that started up spotless.
It works out much cheaper and far easier making it myself.

Once the system is set up why is it difficult to produce your own?  Got to be cheaper and easier than having to drive somewhere just to fill up, and possibly have to drive in opposite direction to go to work.

All I really do is occasionally change a filter and bring RO in to house if there is going to be a severe frost. I have a small 300gpd unit so this is easy to do.

My tap tds is only 35 so double di for me tho there's a few window cleaners round here who use a ro.  I don't see the point as a bag of resin does me about 3 or 4 months.

I've always produced my own water since going WFP, and it probably is the most economical way to do it.
But I can also see how some others would find it convenient to buy from another source rather than produce the water themselves.
We moved property earlier in the year and when looking to move I had to factor in if the new property would be suitable for my RO set up (outside tap, shed/ garage/ out house and electric supply) and the logistics of getting the pure water from the holding tank in to the van.
Some properties are just not suitable to accommodate it all.

The only reason to buy would be if you lived on a flat or something and it was really awkward to setup an R.O

Other than that why would you even consider buying it.

Just goes to show that if someone can sell pure for 2p a litre then how much does it cost to produce per litre ?
It’s something Iv never worked out - how much does 500 Ltrs of water cost us ?

If you can get it for a good enough price it does cut the hassle of having to keep an eye on your system etc.
I had a 1000 litre tank in the garden for years, with all the associated hoses. Filling up at the unit is a doddle for me.

When we sell water our aim is to make it only slightly more expensive than making your own.
In WFP there are loads of ways to save money that involve a little bit of thought and a little bit of time, but we don't all do all of  them.
Making your own suits some people and could save a tenner here or there. Depends if you want to spend time doing it, not everyone does.

As has already been said, how about the time it takes to to go fill?

What if there is roadworks and traffic? How about any other issues you may encounter?

I would rather have control of it myself and the convenience of being able to just fill up in 4-5 minutes, I change filters once every couple of months its plain sailing.

Not exactly difficult using a RO, just plug in and leave it 🤔
Suppose if there was a filler within like 3 mile I might give it a go
plenty of cream...plenty of sugar!
