Ok.... so i am doing it tonight.
« on: May 11, 2018, 04:42:23 pm »
Ok so. Calendar all printed off. I have highlighted the rounds that need improvement in customer numbers, i am focusing on June bookings for the rest of this months canvassing. Some rounds are one or two extra needed, others are eight or so. I am out canvassing existing rounds to bring my numbers up.

Its the 1st time i have actually gone door-to-door for 3 years, and i'm feeling a little intimidated.  :o I know ill be ok when i get into the swing.

Will be going out when the kids go to bed, so around 7pm. Im not expecting much today, just want to get "into the swing" of canvassing for new work and hopefully push that figure closer to my target before i take on another van and a man.

wish me luck

 ;D

yep - good luck, but imo friday evening is a bad time, end of the week people tend to want to unwind or are getting ready to go out

be interested on how you get on - post figures of how many knocked - how many answered - any gains

Let the games commence.

With a load of new work comes first cleans, Messer's, non payers, skippers etc.

I've taken on 150 new ones since Jan and it been a headache. Lost 4 this week.

But can't moan I'm fully up to date and am now on holiday until the 29th may whoo hoo. ;D

Friday would be the last day I'd choose btw

if i was canvassing id do mon- thurs 7pm-9pm (any of these evenings or all of them)and saturdays after 10am.......personally i wouldnt do friday evenings or sat/sun evenings.....

many years ago (in the nineties!) id go canvassing 3 or 4 days a week for an hour or two...(never more than 2 hours at a time though)

some evenings id get diddly squat...others 3 or 4.....its a numbers game.....

good luck marc! :)

Ok Fella's

So like i said, i concentrated on specific areas within my rounds, i didn't get started till 7:45 and decided to have a look at cutting my teeth in my Chobham round. I knocked probably 30 houses, and...i got two signups tonight.

Both Bi-Monthly, one £48 and one £45. A bit lower than I wanted, but that's taken the Chobham round up from £296 for the day to £389 and  up to 8 jobs, from 6. I was often finished on this round by 3pm so those extra jobs should bring it closer to 5pm 8)

Very pleased with this, as this is the sort of revenue i need to be bringing in to afford to pay someone . Next round to look at is a quarterly round i have in Weybridge. Might do that on Sunday.

Its not about the money. Its about making the business work for me, not me for it.

All the best.

Side note:    what reception did you receive marketing at those times?

Ive done a tonne load of door knocking over many many years,,,,,,,,,,, not work related.  Ive also canvassed my rounds up and so i know how hard it is to knock on complete strangers doors, to be and to judge within first couple of seconds of your intro and ive worked many years in sales.    So i sympathise with anyone having to do so, but!  Im not too pleased if anyone knocks on my door selling gone 7 (well, gone six to be fair)   never mind close to 8pm

I agree.

Although you can canvass anytime anyday personally I wouldn't knock any later than 8 and no earlier than 10

But anyone who knocks is braver than me because I hate it, I've done it but it's really not my thing.

The response was generally very positive. It was either no" thanks, i already have someone" to which i would reply with a big smile "and i take it your happy with the current cleaner" and normally they say yes and sometimes they say no and thats what happened last night, both these new signups are not happy eith their current cleaners for mostly tardiness. There goes my pitch, next clean date on bill 2 months in advance, sold, sold. Biggest bugbear with these customers was thier window cleaner texting the night before giving less than 24hours notice, it irritates them.

But when i door knock i get right to the point, i stick a massive smile on my face and thats it really...off i go.

Only time will tell, you cant be sure until you do them for a while.

Anyway, say what you like. Im pushing it forward, my way and if you want to be negative, well go ahead...really please...because 3 or 4 years down the line when i have a few  vans and staff, me and the missus will have the time to do stuff together without having to squeeze everything into a weekend.

Nope its about sticking to your schedual. As I give next clean dates on the bills and this is a very strong selling point.

You might laugh and find it amusing, but people do like to know well in advance when you are coming, and many find it an irritation to get a text less than 24hours before that their window cleaner is coming. All my customers get 2 months notice on the clean date, and i stick to that date, it works very very well and is unique in my proposition against my competitors.

I know i am in the minority here, so you dont need to point it out. The snob thread is completely unrelated as she wanted to call me as and when she wanted to, not on the next clean dates on a bi monthly window clean that i would have given her.

Anyway i have a fun day ahead with the family so i wont be on here this weekend. Im not putting up with being a target of ridicule, i know my way works, and the negative ridicule that some like to dish out proves only one thing, many window cleaners have some kind of superiority complex over thier customers.

I’d hate to have a schedule as strict as that. I can’t beleive it’s even possible, do you not get effected by rain, snow, ice, illness, equipment failure...........?
