All the best.

Side note:    what reception did you receive marketing at those times?

The response was generally very positive. It was either no" thanks, i already have someone" to which i would reply with a big smile "and i take it your happy with the current cleaner" and normally they say yes and sometimes they say no and thats what happened last night, both these new signups are not happy eith their current cleaners for mostly tardiness.

But when i door knock i get right to the point, i stick a massive smile on my face and thats it really...off i go.

Congratulations, you’ve just added two more messers to your round!
Tardiness? Seriously I doubt that unless the meant that he should turp when they wanted him.Oh wait..  ;D

Nope its about sticking to your schedual. As I give next clean dates on the bills and this is a very strong selling point.

You might laugh and find it amusing, but people do like to know well in advance when you are coming, and many find it an irritation to get a text less than 24hours before that their window cleaner is coming. All my customers get 2 months notice on the clean date, and i stick to that date, it works very very well and is unique in my proposition against my competitors.

I know i am in the minority here, so you dont need to point it out. The snob thread is completely unrelated as she wanted to call me as and when she wanted to, not on the next clean dates on a bi monthly window clean that i would have given her.

Anyway i have a fun day ahead with the family so i wont be on here this weekend. Im not putting up with being a target of ridicule, i know my way works, and the negative ridicule that some like to dish out proves only one thing, many window cleaners have some kind of superiority complex over thier customers.
So it wasn't tardiness then it was lack of notice. But just wait until you have as much work as you're seeking. Your stress levels will go through the roof. Your system only works when you have spare time.

My working week only consists of 4 work weeks per month. Any extra weeks or days are free days to book extra cleans, or contingency days. I have always worked like this.

I am still only working a 4 day week as well as i am tightly packing in targeted work, and when i hit the 60k barrier, the work will be oganised in such a way that the demographic is maximised vs revenue per van.

I will then repeat this process.

Marc - if your plans are to expand over the next few years by employing & having a fleet of vans you need to make some changes, what you are doing isn't going to work,

I’d hate to have a schedule as strict as that. I can’t beleive it’s even possible, do you not get effected by rain, snow, ice, illness, equipment failure...........?
I have been through this before. Of course mitigating circumstances come up. But its rare and easily dealt with on a 4 working  week month.

Right...well email me info@stockclean.co.uk and exchange phone numbers  your advice and guidance would be welcome i have an hour or so to chat . But im guessing you won't bother, and in fact your response of "it wont work" is probably just something to write whilst you sit in your undies.   ;)

If you want my advice you can pay for it, what's the going rate that Pryors charge for an hour? £250 plus vat?

Ok so the advice you just offered on this forum was a freebie? Advice to make some....changes? Whatever that might be.   :) i will ponder on your awesome wisdom.

Very valuable. I thank you for the free sample.  ::)roll

Let me just add, those who have advice to give generally give it freely. I know because i have gained some valuable advice free of charge from a number of forum members on here, (odbodds and others) and its very much appreciated and builds a good forum community spirit.

Now if you are referring to Lee, as an advice giver. Let me let you in on a secret, Lee was probbably fed up with being inundated with questions about his rapid expansion, and the questions of how can they repeat his results. Id imagine that running a business and growing it the way he has requires a lot of time, if i was him i would do the same, charge for advice simply to reduce the ammount of people calling  up taking time out of the day, him charging isnt about trying to get more money from you, its about him not spending hours a day answering mindless questions that he could better spend his time on.

Exactly right.

I would get about 10 calls or emails a week from people all over the country.

I still get a few and dont mind having chats on the phone for 10 minutes here and there with like minded people. What Mark has said in his last paragraph is exactly right. Not only that but I would get told 6 months after a meeting with someone how my advice added £20k to their business this year or cured the endless problems they had. Its one thing to feel I helped someone and thats great but often the advice I give took me years of my life to learn and tens of thousands of pounds in trial and error. So if I help someone to jump passed all that why shouldnt I get something in return.

If someone really wants to take their business to the next level and have help from me what I charge is the equivelant of a decent water fed pole! Its nothing.

Consulting is a common thing in most businesses.

Oh and as a quick update. We have 86 new customers this week so far and im off to the office in a min to join my manager there to try and get that to the magic 100. So my 86 is a yearly increase of just over £13,000 (window cleans only) within the 86 we have nearly £5,000 of add on services with the first cleans. Boom.... ;D
The best way to predict the future is to create it.

Marc you know what you're doing, you know what you want to do and where you want to get to. Just crack on with it. Why the need to turn it into a constant blog? It just leaves you open to ridicule. Surely you'd be better putting the time into canvassing than constantly updating and answering back to people that disagree.

2 months notice!!at lot can happen in 2 months!i think your nuts personally..... ;D

i dont even notify most of my customers and just turn up and clean.the ones i do are usually for access or notification(larger posh houses)and this is done by text night before...i normally stick to my schedule give or take a day or so(apart from xmas/ holidays)

so what happens if theres access issues?2 months notice and their bound to forget to leave the gate unlocked.... ::)roll

Sometimes doing things this way is good for accountability, tell people you're going to do something and then to remain consistent you have to do it.

It may work for now with not that much work and just cleaning on his own, the difficulty to sticking to planned dates two months in advance will be realised when employees come in.

A local guy round here has after 7 years stopped working that way. He was giving approximate tines too that he had to stick to two months ahead. Eventually it becomes unmanageable as it did for him as I told him it would. Saying “I told you so” is a wonderful feeling isn’t it?  ;D

Not too busy window cleaners can offer all sorts of things that busy ones can’t. Going by Marc’s other thread, he obviously realises the importance of not bending backwards to meet customers’ needs and I’m sure eventually he’ll realise that what he currently offers isn’t sustainable long term. Also to be frank, whatever approach you take will not be popular with everyone which is why ultimately you have to do what’s best for you.

They dont forget Dazmond. That's the point. They note the date down, and i do it on the date. No need to text, turn up and clean. Its got a great big arrow on the bill with the words YOUR NEXT CLEAN DATE.  I have been doing it like this for years with no issues at all.

If you run your window cleaning round on any cleaner planner software, or any booking system and clean the properties on the dates your schedual says so, its no flipping different.

I still dont get it how its a problem. I honestly am baffled by the sheer volume of hostility to this idea.

It works well. I dont need to text people the night before.
