Off to a good start
« on: April 28, 2018, 12:21:16 pm »
So week 1 of our marketing and growth this years is done and I am happy so far.

53 new regular customers increasing our yearly turnover by £8,215 (window cleaning only)

with those first cleans we have £4,625 worth of gutters, fascia and con roof cleans on top. So a total turnover increase of £12,840

we also passed 4000 customers on gocardless this week

We need to be over 60 new houses a week to be on target.

This week we delivered 50,000 leaflets at a cost of £6,500 so I am very happy with the return. 50K more going out next week so the snow ball effect should see us get around the 70 new houses mark.
The best way to predict the future is to create it.

great motivation lee  :)
I have been a window cleaner for 26 years... in 2010 my buisness was moving foreward. then my wife had an affair with an employee, which totally changed things !
I then became  a full time dad to my 3 kids
I carried on functioning and servicing my round.
I have got my kids up and running , only one left in school and soon to be leaving.
I am now in that position to push fore ward..... at the start of the year , I started putting out cards / flyers at the rate of just 30 per day... I target certain types of houses and put a price on (my flyer states ! allow extra if you have a conny )
I am getting 2% return . it suits me as i only aim for 5 new customers a week . this is good on top of what I have already have
I have now started charging extra for new cleans as I am  finding new cleans slowing it all down.
I like the snow ball effect too ... leaflets do that
keep posting ! you are motivating me

See what you have done there is form an opinion without having all the facts. It was in fact part of my business plan to have vans first. There were several reasons for this based on finance and purchase price ect, I dont feel the need to go right into it but it certainly wasnt madness. They have been great as spares along the way and the next one goes out in 2 weeks time and the last in 3 months time.

Have you actually seen his offices?

Have you met him at his place of work?

Have you taken the time to speak with him in person?

I can tell you this, if you haven't then you are not in a position to make a judgement.

I have seen his setup, his vans, and conversed with him in person and you will not meet a more nicer motivated fella.

Just because it was planned doesn’t make it the best way forward. Aside from the wasted money and profit, who needs that level of pressure?

Absolutely correct.

I am not in a position to go on a major canvassing push until i get someone in a van, i will and am doing targeted canvassing on existing rounds to get to my 60k point and then will go full pelt

Ok. In that case tell me the best way forward John, I am always happy to get good advice.  I had a 3 year business plan to reach the goal that we are exactly on target to achieve 6 months ahead of time. I asume you have been there and done it so let me know your experience and what I should be doing. Can you start by letting me know what stage your business is at now please? Vans, customer base size, yearly turnover and your plan moving forward.

Thanks

I think it’s good to see people doing well.

Was this level of success the plan from the very start Lee? You mentioned in a previous post to me that you had been going 14 years, at what point did you think “I could have x amount of vans / success from this” or did you set up with your ladder / bucket (sorry don’t know exact background) and a one man band was enough for a while?

Hi Dane

Yes I started with a ladder and bucket and roof rack on my honda civic.

I was a one man band for many years but always grew each year.

To answer your question it was 3 years ago I wanted to go really big. At that point I had 4 vans on the road and me in the office. At that point we turned over about £22k a month and I did alright for myself by most peoples standards. Thing is I have some very very successful friends and that motivated me. I remember thinking I wanted the business to be about 3 times the size. That would alow me to earn the really good money but at the same time not need to work more than part time due to having office staff running the day to day.

So there we have it. We are on track to hit £65 a month by September.

I plan to enjoy that for about 2 years at that level then I want to start a second depot with a goal of that reaching £65k a month within a 3 year period taking our total business to £130k a month. I am currently working on the plan for that now, although I will need to come up with at least £200k to get started with it!

Since you ask. 3 vans, 1,250 customers. 2 vans full doing £400 a day each. Third van half full. Aiming to be full by mid July. I’ve got  7  part time leaflet deliverers in towns and 30,000 Royal Mail delivered to out of town areas leaflet droppers can’t reach. 27 new customers last week.  I’ll probably get to 5/6 vans and stick. Should turnover £250,000 this year. Not on your scale but it doesn’t need to be to have an opinion.

EDIT: that should have read 1,300 customers. I’m used to the round figure and forgot the 50 added I The last couple of weeks.

Sorry, Royal Mail deliveries on 24th May or thereabouts. That will be interesting as it’s the first mass drop I’ve done.
