funny noise from van
« on: April 18, 2018, 11:50:15 am »
Noticed the last few days a noise on my fiat doblo
 :(

Dealership warranty run out (3 months warranty).

Have a warranty with, warranty direct so be getting in touch with them.

When I'm driving over 30mph and turning wheel to the right I hear an almost whistling noise.

Can only hear noise when window is open.
Sounds like something rubbing slighty on brake disc.

All good fun just finished sorting out snag list on van 6 weeks ish ago😞

Took 4 visits to dealership, for things that should have been done in 1 visit.

Early lunch over, very hot tomorrow, crazy weather 🍨 😊

Sounds like either wheel bearing or worn out brake pads or it could even be that your cv boot has split and the cv joint is dry , any of the above will need sorting sooner rather than later as each will cause other problems
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

If is a squeaky noise, could be brake pads wearing down to the squeak springs, they are designed to squeak when pads are low.

It could also be the brake disc backing plate, sometimes a stone can whack it and they can bend inwards slightly, and when you go round the corner, the load on that wheel is enough to make the plate rub on the disc due to it being slightly closer to the disc than it should be from the stone bending it.

Doubt its CV joints, these tend to make a clicking or rumbling sound, when low with grease or wearing out.

Doubt its wheel bearings, these will make a grinding noise much like a salt shaker.

Small stone between the pad and disc it could be.

Sounds like roof bars or ladders - the set on the vivaro sound like the ghost of Christmas past at 30 mph!

I went down a steep hill yesterday and heard a terrible screeching coming from my wheel.

I pulled over and phoned the mechanic I use and he told me to bring it in.  A few minutes later, driving on the flat, the noise just stopped.

I'd been meaning to top up my brake fluid for a few months now, so I pulled into a garage and topped it up (it was on low).

Then I had to phone the mechanic and tell him I am an idiot, though being ex-military, he called me a stronger word. ;D

Done dummy run without ladders on roof, still get noise.

Definitely as turn steering wheel too the right noise starts.

Stone between pads sounds best to me as the cheapest to fix😁

Checked fluid levels brake and steering all good.

If it's brake pads, it won't be covered by warranty direct.

If I remember brakes, clutch and wipers excluded.

I had the same thing on my fiat doblo. I took it to the garage and it was a wheel bearing. On the fiat doblo it's a whole unit you have to  change. I paid £150 to change the bearing and brake unit.

Thanks for the info Steve.

I'm booked in tomorrow, Friday morning at a garage listed by warranty direct, it's fairly local, about 2 miles away.

Funnily enough a customer recently recommended them also.

I can live with £150.

Sure warranty won't cover it 😐

Best week since last autum or more and will be off road.😣

The cigar goes to Marc

It could also be the brake disc backing plate, sometimes a stone can whack it and they can bend inwards slightly, and when you go round the corner, the load on that wheel is enough to make the plate rub on the disc due to it being slightly closer to the disc than it should be from the stone bending it.

Backing plate rubbing 👍
Garage owner didn't bill me, asked for a drink, found a new garage in town.

Think I'll be giving them my business, hope not to be there much😁

Thanks everyone 😊
