Your tds will be higher to start with when you turn your tap on regardless of being sat idle I think 🤔, then running it for a while until the tds goes as low as it goes then plug into DI is how it works. My tds is 270 , I run it for 5 mins or so whilst I’m unplugging the battery charger etc then it goes down to 002

Just to throw a curve ball.
My tap water is just less than 300 (cant remember exactly how much) but it comes out my RO at 006 and i just fill up my ibc tank and dont use DI

I have 2 11ltr vessels , so it last me a while . I used to have a 1ltr vessel with a 450gpd and was forever changing it so i just bought 2 bigger ones & a 4040  so I don’t have to faff about as often

shrek    thats exactly   what i had  450 a day   pumped  and thats excactly   why i upgraded   to this  ro

however   my pressure gauge is at the top of the ro    my tap pressure is  40psi    its 50ft  from the machine   so   unpumped  the pressure gauge is   20 psi   and pumped   is 100psi   but i am turning the pump to 140psi fatster water fill   should i just run it at    100psi   because  the paper work says  optimum  speed 100psi    will i brake the membranes if its over 100 psi

                         nathen   is your system pumped

I’m not an expert in this field lol , mine is unpumped , hf5 , tap pressure of 55psi. I run mine at 40psi and get around 2ltrs a minute. I’m fine with that and wouldn’t benefit from it producing any faster.

I have quite high tap pressure. I had a HF5 lasted a year tops before it was replaced with a HF4, much better production rate, been fitted two years and TDS output still very good. Don't use a pump for 4040 as not needed.

My RO (HF4) is reading 0.0 still I have production rate at 30% output and 70% waste.
Previous RO (HF5) I use to run at 60 production & 40 waste but I'm pretty sure not changing the pre filters regularly killed it off prematurely.
I have a 2000litre & 1000litre tank both plumbed together for production storage so I can leave it on 24/7 when it's nearly depleted.  When storage is full it's enough for the week.  Where I live roadworks were constantly going on owing to 40 tonne juggernauts damaging the road where main water pipes were forever being dug up and couldn't rely on production on a daily basis hence why I bought two big storage tanks.

ok thanks  windowswashed

the reason iam asking these questions    is  when the beast from the east  blew inn i had a burgalry   at the garage   the door got left open  and for 2 days my machine was frozen  i managed to save  the  pump  and changed the di   but i think the membrane  has been damaged  judging by the 3 reading  i have now of you guys .

iam still getting   08          pumped from the membrane    but i know know i am going to have to change it   not yet  but in a month or so
so how do i definately   tell if its   gone   as i only ever have had   a 450gpd system and i would change the   membranes at   30    pumped   but with this being a bigger   scale  i dont know how to tell if its time to change    i definately cant get it lower than 30   unpumped

When everything freezes the first thing that normally gets damaged if not protected from severe cold temp is the pre filter casing . If your RO membrane was knackered it probably wouldn't produce any water and it would be leaking around the connections really badly. If unsure, disconnect the connections and visually check the condition of the membrane. If it's working fine and TDS hasn't moved a great deal then it should be fine (membrane).

Thanks there's no leaking  so Iam just going to change the prefilters when this resin runs out in 4 to 5 weeks and put a 25ltr di     on it  should last 13 months with the calculations I have

Thank you for your advice  all

Are you saying you’re getting 08ppm after your membrane or DI?

If it’s after your membrane then I’m struggling to see whats wrong with that? Especially if that’s unpumped (for the recored, stick with 80-100psi, if you’re pumping at that pressure anyway then go for a HF4)

If that’s after your DI then you can make a judgement until you unplug your DI, check your TDS after your membrane.
As has been mentioned previously, give it a few mins for it to settle down as all the crap will push through first.

You should be aiming for a minimum of 95% production rate, which in your case is (if your TDs is 370 from tap) 18/19. Any higher and your membrane is on its way out.
(This is after your membrane though, not DI!)

If your getting less than 18/19, I’m not sure what the problem is (because there isn’t one); just change your resin.

(For the record, what TDS your getting unpumped is irrelevant...you have a pump, why wouldn’t you use it..?)
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

so reading   back these posts   my membrane   may have a bit of damage   but is ok anyway  but will just need replacing  earlier  i have a fresh fill of di in the 6ltre container and have a spare 6 ltre to go  iam moving from this property   because were on a metre thats one of the reasons i got a pump fitted  i will upgrade to a hf4 membrane when the membrane  is shot    thanks again for the advice
