Hot users - optimum op temp?? (It's not Latin 😁)
« on: April 12, 2018, 05:12:56 pm »
I've run an immersion for a few years now. Started off over winter with warm, but now I use it all year round. I prefer the warmer water (I know this isn't everybody's preference!!)
Anyway, I've been taking temp reading when I feel that the warmer water seems to make more of a difference cleaning the frames and glass. It tends to start about the late 30s (37-40) to early 40 degrees. I can't get much above this at the brushhead with my setup without it  being on for ages.
So, do you hot water uses notice a difference at a certain temp?
If you were to settle on an optimum cleaning temp, what would you say it is?
Out of interest.

I think this will open up a whole can of worms as everyone will have there own opinion but I think from a scientific fact the hotter the water the better it will clean , however and it’s a big however you don’t want to go mad as you could break pains of glass if it is to hot ,hot water produces faster moving molecules so it will clean faster than cold or warm water we use a 9 kw diesel boiler and run it flat out all the time , in the summer months sometimes if the tank of water is very hot to the touch I mean it’s that hot you cannot put your hands in it we turn the boiler off for a couple of hours or so I don’t check the temperature of the water but again if you are using 10 meters of hose the water will be a lot hotter than if you have 100 meters hose out as it will naturally dissipate heat into the ground and air so you will not get the same temperature all day it will depend on the amount of hose out

9kw diesel heater..........40-50c and its effortless to scrub snail trails, bird muck and bee/pollen spots off the glass and frames......i also run my boiler on full whack all the time.....in summer on a hot day i fully expect the water to get to 60c at brush end even with 50m of hose out.in winter on a freezing cold day with 100m out its only around 25-30c at brush end.thats ok as i dont want the water too hot on a cold day due to the risk of thermal shock.....

sometimes when im cleaning the van with most of the hose coiled on the reel its reading 55-60c at brush end....too hot to keep your hand under it for long! ;D

ive said it before and ill say it again.hot water is more beneficial for cleaning in the warmer months due to increased temperature at brush end, more sticky pollen on the windows, snail trails, bird muck, green algae and of course the filthy add on jobs we pick up....

I run mine at half way point on the setting, I don’t want it that hot, plus it has a tendency to eat through the extreme brushes so I tweak mine so it’s hot enough to make a difference

I know there are other brushes which cope with heat better, but after over 20 years on poles my body needs the lightest equipment

Maybe on a first clean I’ll turn it up to full blast

on leaded lights pvc, it will take off the lead that’s stuck on epesially older frames, so I will turn it off or right down on a higher flow

I only use hot through colder months mines off now except for new cleans, many won’t agree as to why but it’s my preference for usage,

Hope you enjoy the heater

i dont see the point in spending all that money and not using hot water ALL the time on full power.......i use it every day....i love it! 8)

Daz...serious question...
I clean every 8 weeks and don't really have a problem with bird poo or snail trails. Yes I get a few, but I deal with them, job done.
However:
I like the idea of hot water to speed me up and I appreciate that hot cleans quicker and probably better, than cold.
Would hot water be of benefit to me?
I currently clean round the frames (quickly) (a quick 3x swipe where the top of the glass meets the rubber), twice over the glass (left to right, then right to left) and a very minimal rinse ( I use a high flow).
If I used hot, do you think I could do just a once over the glass (left to right etc).
This would be a massive time saving for me and probably worth the investment.
Sorry to put you on the spot.
Cheers
Robbo

I run mine from the boiler end at 59 to 61. It can lose as much as 13 degrees on cold days with a lot of hose out.
If its a rare minus day i just use it as warm.

Thats why i got hot water, for better cleaning. I started with fish tank heates but only got the water into the 40's but noticed a difference.
Now i like my tank to be around 65 degrees plus and I know that will be ideal for me. I run my pump niw on 80, mostly because i have six jets but also to ensure hot water at the brush end. Ive not took a reading at the brush end but the glass feels nice n warm when ive finished ckeaning it  ;D

Fish tank heaters are thermostatically controlled so that they dont cook the fish so there's no way you would have got your water to 40 degrees using them, once again Nathan its 2 + 2 = 6.

I did during the cold spell in feb.  I filled barrels from the hot tap through the DI
They stayed very warm with the lids on untill the early afternoon.
I have to say...I really enjoyed using warm

You can fill with hot from tap did this during winter to stop gear from freezing up overnight then top up with hot before work it's not ideal as an immersion is more convenient but it does work ;D

at the end of the day robbo hot water makes EVERYTHING better......rinsing/scrubbing/drying of the windows/hose management/no freeze ups in winter......and yes you can "splash and dash" with more confidence on some work......
