No, me neither it's a closed shop.
No one ever leaves the fire service once they're in.
I don't know of any other "essential service" job where you can also run a business on the side.
There are loads working round here and I have picked up work after them and most were cash jobs.
You oviously don’t look in the right places as the jobs are advertised for all to apply for although there are quite often hundreds of applications for a few jobs
Why did the Manchester crews stay away from the scene if you were in the job you would understand why there are protocols to adhear to weather we like it or not and some times cock ups are made by lack of communication between different organisations , I think this will become apparent in the forth coming enquiries
Is it a dangerous job yes it can be you have a bad day cleaning windows you might break a window : get it wrong when fighting a fire you don’t get a second chance try googling flashover and backdraft see if you would like to go into a building and experience that , I’ve did the job for 30 years and people with an attitude like yours is very uncommon most appreciate what the emergence services do , do we always get it right no do you ? No , look at the grenfell tower block fire that shows the British fire service at its best we are world leaders in the way the Fireservice works at ground level with the training and profecianalism of its members it’s only when you get up into very senior management that are far removed from the real working environment that things go wrong
When they ( wholetime firefighters) are on days off if they choose to have a second job or run there own buisness window cleaning or anything else why shouldn’t they ? We live in a free country where ones can choose what they want to do not a dictatorship where you are told what to do . Many people have two or three jobs that’s there choise : a wholetime firefighter has to have permission from the brigade before doing a second job I personally don’t think that they should have to but that’s the way it is
No one ever leaves the Fireservice again how wrong you are retention of personal is a very big issue especially for on call staff , would you be prepared to give 120 + hours a week cover for 3k a year ? Jump out of your bed 3 times a night ? Drop what you are doing with your own buisness to go and deal with an rtc where some drunk has had an accident . Be verbally abused for trying to help people? And so the list goes on : you need to sit down and think about your comments before coming out with such rubbish
Whilst I respect all the emergency services and the job they do.
You can't choose to be a fireman then moan about the job, the hours, the pay or the danger. You know all that when you sign up.
If you don't like it then leave and find another job.
