Rang a custurd who from the beginning said I need to ring her the day before as she locks  her gate but she can’t leave it open because the farm next door has cows and they might escape 🤦‍♂️
Anyway , the past few times I ring her she’s been quite funny asking what time I’m going to get there as she’s going out at 10am and not returning til the afternoon so I either get there before 10am or after 2pm.
... as we all know these jobs don’t work out long term.... I rang today wondering whether she’ll be in, left a voicemail.
Half hour later she rings back and says she’s out from 9:30am and not back till 2pm and I thought I can’t be arsed with this anymore.
So I said sorry but this doesn’t work for me , you will have to find someone else to do your windows from now on. She went quiet and then said fine you won’t be getting much more business (whatever that means  ???  ) .
They are a retired couple but it just makes it so difficult when you’ve got people like that on the books. I feel so relieved now that I never have to go back there again  ;D

These days,I don't even get as far as the first clean with such a job.  If they get me on a walk-up and say it, I might offer a one-off if it's done there and then and I have the time, but I will charge a higher rate.  The only other option is if they supply me with a gate/padlock key or code number - whichever is appropriate.

I dropped one like a hot bag of chips this morning.

She lives across the road from some other customers, I first cleaned her last month and she said she was really happy when I called the day after.

I rang this morning and at first it was "we have a hospital appointment-can you come next week?"

I said no, I can still clean if your not home. Then she started on about the weather, so I offered her 8 weekly and she said ok.
I put 30% on the price and she carried on about the weather, whilst she banging on I was drawing  a line through her address.

I wouldnt mind but I really push my point accross now with all new customers about weather working etc, it must have gone in one ear and out the other.

I told my wife while we were cleaning accross the road " if anyone from over the road comes out- we're busy"

Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

Those that ask for a time get the same as delivery drivers with parcels reply, am or pm, that's close enough, can't be messing around with hourly times, if they don't like it, leave me a key or forget it, too much hassle in the long run

I don’t mind if it’s 1st one of the day but anything can happen after that , last month she said the nurse is coming at 11:30am so I need to come before she got there 🙄
On the phone she just said that 2 days after I cleaned them , the gutters started leaking so I must’ve broke it ... wtf ...
I said I didn’t clean or touch your gutters , I cleaned your windows- she was like oh ok.
Time b4 that she said will you start cleaning my garage door too and add it on , I said yeah it’ll be a couple of quid. Spent 10 mins cleaning that dirty garage door thinking it’ll be easy next time. Knocked on the door, told her it’s another £2 , she said oh il leave then , i don’t want to pay another £2 ....
Me....🤦‍♂️😫😩🤯🤬

Ive only one customet on the books who i give heads up to that im coming so they can pick a day n time.
Well I tell them that im in the area and will be two days there, which is best for them.  They are an old couple who ive known for ages and I also clean the inside windows for them. By time i hve finished outside windows there is a coffee n sandwich or tea n scone depending what time I get there.

For anybody else who ask what day or time I simply tell them I come round every 4 weeks but that can be on any day and time. If acess is a problem I will text the night before to give heads up. If the gate is still locked  then I charge 75%.

Just had another one - first clean - "do you know what time so i can be in to pay you"

already told her we take online payments if no on is in

I hate being held to a time, i hate being held to a day, infact i dont like texting ahead at all really as it does my head in when you can get there then have to re text them all.

We don’t take on any jobs with locked gates unless the customer gives us a key or the code to get in , we don’t txt either but phone Commercial jobs over £120 , I I think there are going to be access issues we don’t evan do an initial clean I have  a good look when quoting and ask about any concerns I have evan if there is a sniff of problems I walk away , having done jobs like this in the past you only end up doing fronts etc for half the job price or Evan less it’s not worth the hassle,

I clean every 8 weeks.
I text or call every customer the night before, for access and out of politeness, all part of the service; in general it works fine and I'm happy with it.
About a year ago the leafleting company I used, mucked up, and delivered 2,000 leaflets in the wrong area (the wrong side of a dual carriageway). However, the local window cleaner had retired and I picked up about 20 new customers, on an ex-council estate (none with side access). I live on an ex-council estate so i'm fine with that. Over the year, without fail, every single house has mucked me about. What time are you coming, can you do tomorrow, the wife isn't in...blah blah blah.
I've dumped the whole lot.
Last week was the final straw, I sent about 5 texts, back and forth to a customer (who I quite liked and I was trying to help him out) but we couldn't agree on a time to clean his property.  Enough is enough!!
I was really p***ed off, and you know who at?
ME!
I knew I shouldn't have taken these jobs on but I did. I am the tw4t.
Thank god for all the good customers I've got.  ::)roll

"Thank you for calling: if you have a 1st floor flat, mid terraced house, lots of dogs, no parking, no side access, or no sense of humour, please press hold!
For all other enquiries, please press1"

I said it once before.

I say it again.

I will be shot down.

I PUT THE NEXT CLEAN DATE ON THIER BILL.

And clean on that day.

I have a locked gate policy. If its locked on thr agreed day, tough. Full payment still due.  We clean what we can and move on.

Very true.

This only works if you have plemty spare time and or employees. Even then..... it’s no guarantee.
