Pricing!
« on: March 25, 2018, 07:23:15 pm »
I hate it when folks ask about domestic prices but...
Garages and shops how do you price them as whenever I price shop windows they normally pull a face at me as if I'm about to rob there till.
Three large windows from the ground and door, probably fornightly inside and out. £???
Barber shop with one large window and a door. £???

However much you charge per hour divided by 60 minutes x by however long it will take you eg.

If I was on £30 an hour divided by 60 minutes = 50p a minute.
The job will take 10 minutes so £5

This is why i stay clear of commercial work.
I used to clean some very large houses  that a private  firm owned for kids in care, my wife worked their and I knew how much they got oer chikd and how much they spent on things. But it after a couple of years they were trying to cut cost here n there and enquiring about prices from other shiners. One got the contract for being ten pound cheaper!

I dont think commercial is worth it, i stay well clear now. Even from local stores like your saying. They expect to soend pittance on them and some suckers out there are happy to work for pittance

I used to do 30 or so total garages from central london all the way down to Portsmouth and Chichester. Was a long day 5am on the glass 11pm off glass, pricing would have got so complicated so i charged a standard £25 per store. Some only took 5 mins, some 20, it evened itself out over the round. Twas a good little earner, even if it did take a day or so of recovery.

Totally disagree with Nathan on the commercial front. Be bold with your pricing and you can make good money. You'll never be affected by the weather and it's regular work. We clean a large pub on a main road  every Friday morning so my van is parked on the main road for two hours. Mobile billboard with masses of traffic passing by, you can't buy that kind of advertising. When and if I lose the contract, I won't take it personal.

I don't find this at all.some of my commercial jobs are my best hourly rates(£50-£60 an hour jobs).care homes and private offices....

I don't do shops or garages  though.....
price higher/work harder!

I have been full circle I do a lot of large commercial work for a well known organisation I did work for them for 9 years never had a problem then they decided to go with national contractors that were charging a third of what I was charging them : they had the contract for three years and the client was very unhappy with them , I now have the contracts back at an evan higher price it’s my best paying work : lovely big properties but always in the back of my mind I think I could loose it again if the senior management decide to alter things , just have to make hay whilst the sun shines I guess

You need to open your eyes dear friend!

Can easily hit £500 plus doing commercial, not silly little retail shops though.

Well it's silly little retail shops that I'm asking about. If I can pick up a couple of local garages at a decent price then that'll at least be start.

Again, im not saying you cant earn money on commercial. The job i did paid £400 for  2 half days a month.    But when management want to save a couple of quid they look for cheaper quotes and they get them.

You can easily hit 500 a day commercial I agree, you can also loose 500 in an email and that’s a fact I know for sure it’s happened to me. Commercial and fickle people go together it only takes one of the employees to know a window cleaner and your down the road.

Best way to keep commercial jobs is to bung the person in charge if they seem that type of person some cash in hand every 6-12 months to keep the job,I’ve done it myself in the past it gave me confidence I wouldn’t lose the work and I never did.

You can lose 5K on residential. Both can be equally as fickle.

Mis-read that person and you might be up before The Beak.

I’d rather chance losing 5-10 domestics over 1 commercial thanks any day of the year,it happens in any commercial work building down to the cleaning, you have to look after people or they will get people who do it’s the way these things work in my humble experience. Are you telling me that if  someone offers the maintenance manager an envelope with cash in it every so often he won’t look after them,if so your a bit green it’s happening all the time you scratch my back and all that.

You can do that in domestics if you work a full day.
