if you buy a decent reel in the first place(i use a cox reel) and have it fixed in the van then theres no need for an electric reel as reeling in manually is a breeze.....
price higher/work harder!

Hi Steve good question 👍

I would like to know more about this.

Especially the fittings used to connect drill to reel.

Think p@f using drill maybe he can give us some help.

Daz, where did you get your reel, do you mind telling how much?

Thanks lee

I dont think the voltage would be that important, more the torque.

Just go the motor route, cost you about 50 quid if that.

If your going to the trouble of buying a new drill for the purpose of winding your reel in, then why not just build one for less money.   I dont understand?
Its not that hard to stick a cog on your reel, stick a chain on it and then just wire up a 12v motor.
Its dead simple and safer than sticking a drill on end

Haha No its not my vid this time,

Good post Nathan.
I come across this video on youtube 👍

Problem I have is I don't want to cut holes in my van floor.

I have fiat doblo.

You can just about shut back doors on hose.
But don't know if this will cause problems with doors coming out of line.

Safer to lift reel out of van, hence interest in portable drill idea.

I use an electric reel which i built similar to the one in the post. Ive been using it perhaps 6months or so, perhaps longer.  Ive setit up so it runs central so I can trap it in the van doors if need be. I have a fiat scudo and its not affected the doors as of yet

I’ve used a drill for 8 years, I only replaced my original drill last year, that was because the case broke, the drill was still going strong. For all dazmond says about using a cox reel ect, why then does he insist only using light brushes? Because it’s a lot easier than using a heavy brush! Not having to wind a reel in, how ever few times a day you have to do it makes a massive difference to your working day, there is no way anyone can say winding a reel in by hand is just as easy as using a motor, Dazmond can’t really comment on motorised reels as he has never used one. Anyone that has a motorised reel will tell you it’s better and I’m pretty sure no one would revert back to manual winding.

I bought a second had drill from eBay, took the batteries out of the battery pack an wired it directly to the van battery.

The drill is an 18v but running off the 12v van battery it has load of torque.

Once you get the hang of it it’s a really cheap way of having a motorised reel without the hassle of Fitting a cog and chain.
