Help for RO idiot !
« on: March 15, 2018, 08:01:05 pm »
As title , me being the idiot  ;D

I only run small RO's , only 250L needed per day , i was running 2x 50GPD units and was getting more than enough , however one of the membranes went south and i was left with one 50 GPD , if it runs constantly i can keep up just about .
But the backflush / flow restrictor is starting to leak and will need sorting .
What i want to do is run a 75 GPD constantly , which will give me all i need , but upon looking it seems i need to replace a few bits .
What i use now is this

I just turn the black bit and it backflushes , i assume the new flow restrictor will just go in its place , but what i am not understanding is ...... how do you then backflush the membrane ???

I just cant see how its done , sorry for the stupidity of me  ;D ;D ;D
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

Not 100% sure what you mean but if the new flow restrictor is the basic ones with no tap. All i used to do is put a John guest t piece either side of the flow restrictor with a tap between them and when you want to flush the membrane just open the tap. But to be honest i wouldn't even worry about it and dont even know if you can 75gpd flow restrictors.
Personally  i would stick with 100gpd day at least then in winter when the product flow starts to drop you will still get enough for what you need.

As above ^^^

You’ll need to put a t-piece before and after the new restrictor.
Connect them with hose so you now have a bypass on the restrictor and the fit a tap (1/4 inch, push fit) on this bypass.

Close the tap to produce and open it to flush.

Personally I’d fit one 100gpd membrane and then do as above. They’re cheap enough  :)
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

Thanks for the replies chaps , that all makes sense now with the T pieces , i have always bought the ROs local which came with that auto flush bit on .
RO man do the 75 membranes and flow restrictors , but thinking about it , it would probably be wiser to go 100 GPD route as its better to have too much than not enough isnt it !
Thanks for the help , will get it ordered up asap .
