Canvassing?
« on: March 11, 2018, 12:49:39 pm »
I haven't canvassed for a few years but I'm hoping to start again this month. Just wanted to know what others say at the door these days?
My spiel used to be something like ' I'm sorry to bother you I'm just enquiring to see if you need/have a window cleaner'.

I don't canvass any more as work now finds me, but when I did I would simply say 'Hello, my name is John and I am offering a window cleaning service locally. Is this something you might be interested in at all?'

Be polite and positive, and try to engage with the householder. I used exactly this presentation and treated each door as if it were my first.

I wouldn't apologize for knocking their door. It would be as if you are apologizing for offering your service to them, and why should you be sorry for that?

If however, their response was in any way aggressive you could then apologize for bothering them if you felt it would be appropriate, and also thank them for their time.

Well done on getting out there.

Don't start by saying 'sorry' and 'bother'. They are negative words.

I say something like:

"Hello, my name is Tom, I am a local window cleaner. We have many customers in the area, I was wondering if you need a window cleaner?"

Yeah, don't apologise.

Stick on the biggest grin you can muster, and say......

1) Hello! I'm Marc, from StockClean, we have a window cleaning round in your road, would you like to be added?

2)Good morning sir/madam (don't ask how they are, many don't like that if hey don't know you) would you like a window cleaning service?

Its really that simple.

Remember when they open the door they are thinking already on how to get rid of you before you have opened your mouth, don't babble, don't ramble, get to the point. Do the call, get your message across and move on.

I used to say

"Hi sorry to bother you, just a local window cleaner, I clean a few houses on the street and wondered if you needed a window cleaner? "

I know you are not supposed to apologize but it always made me feel more comfortable to say that s I did.

Not canvassed for a long time and I never did very much as I always hated it and i prefer to pay others to do it and stick to cleaning.

I've thought about employing a canvas firm in the past but because I used to be good at it (I seem to have the right kind of face) plus I'm a gift of the gab type of person I'm going to do it myself its just doing the first few that is scary after not doing it for so long!

Just say “hi my friend has been made redundant from he’s job and refuses to sign on and claim benefits so im helping him build a windowcleaning round up, can we add you to the books”
Works a treat as everyone loves a tryer...
When the first cleans start if the customer questions why your doing it just say friend found another job so you are doing it.

I don't suppose what you say is too important as the customer is too busy making a judgement based on how you look and come across.

If they don't like the look of you they wont be interested in whatever your offering.

Same here but I'm greedy I want to continue growing my business and pay off my mortgage five years earlier to enable me to buy a place in Spain!
