How much do you charge to clean interior windows?
« on: February 20, 2018, 09:17:55 am »
Hi just wondered what the fair rate is to charge for doing interior windows? Thought it may be more? Thinking as I'm doing outside my wife can do inside?  I have had a no of people ask for a quote.

I just charge the same price again. Dont understand why youd need to double the price, unless of course you are not very good at it and it ends up taking you all morning to do a couple of windows.

A. because it’s a pain in the arse
B. Takes time taking shoes off/on and faffing about
C. You have usually to move ornaments or a settee and lean over household items
D. I could do 2 outside cleans for the same time as an inside

Ahh ok. You move everything off?

Nope i dont do that. I ask the householder to move curtians off, nets down, trinkets away from sills before i start. Funiture moved too. I dont touch a thing but the window.

I do the same Marc. If e.g. I was cleaning a house exterior for £30 I doubt very much they would stump up £90 total for insides as well. I'm quick on insides. Spray bottle, microfiber towel , squeegee n scrim. To be fair though, not many regs want the insides cleaned, its usually one offs eot's etc. So I've priced it well anyway.

......and just to add, if I know I've an inside job booked that day then I wear slip on shoes/boots 😉

I normally charge 1 1/2 the outside price twice the outside if it’s not a regular,if I get a sniff they want it doing to sell I won’t do it if it’s a new job.

I don't like going into folks houses but if they seem decent and it's not a clutter I'd say 1.5x the price.
Those that do are you cleaning the frames as well?

i dont clean inside windows and refuse all interior work now..

the only exception is elderly regular customers who want an inside kitchen window cleaning(i dont charge them either)...
price higher/work harder!

Same as Darran but i get them to clear everything off  ;D

Trad for 10 plus years and wfp for 7 years.

Trad doesn't take any longer? Love to see you do real Georgian windows trad in the same time as wfp ;)

Well of course. There are mitigating circumstances. I wouldn't charge the same either for those sort of windows

I charge the same for insides as I do the outsides.

I'm 100% trad anyway so it's a similar amount of time to do both, or less to do insides if the clutter and nets are out of the way.

I charge the same as the exterior as long as they’re accessible and everything’s clear from the sills - with Mark, I’m there to clean windows not move things about

I charge a bit more for insides, depends if I like the custie, but I want any ornaments removed and I only clean the glass and the sill.
Occasionally, I get asked to do the inside kitchen window, or inside patio doors, and the going rate for that is a cuppa, milky, one sugar; i'm not cheap!  ;D

Don't really know why anyone would do insides for the same price as outsides unless it's because you are trying to keep the customer happy and on side or you are building your business and need any money you can.  There's no way you can trad inside windows faster than you can WFP the outside.  Even if you dont have to clear ornaments you can guarantee the customer may want to chat whilst your doing it, plus if insides are not cleaned regularly like within every 3 months then i can't see how you can clean insides just as quick as the outsides there is just more faffing about in general.  Personally i charge 1.5x for the insides if it's semi regular.  If it's just a random one off request then charge 2.0x.  It's rare i do insides though these days.

Plus for those of you like Daz that have enough work, then really having to do insides is just a ball ache.  Messes up your regular routine of your day.  If i had it my way i'd probably charge x3 for insides, hoping that customer will say no and turn me down, because i dont want to do them anyway.  However if they have money to burn and want to pay x3 then atleast i know im getting good money for it and that makes me feel somewhat better about it.

Like Daz, i also clean the odd inside kitchen window for elderly customers and don't charge them either.  That i do just for there loyal custom and because i know they cant do it.

In general though, really cba with doing insides anymore.

I often charge 1.5 external cost, bizarrely gets so confusing for some

So. Now I have Interior standard charge @ £45 per hour to be fair it works out quite similar

Not many window cleaners in this area like doing internal so I get Many enquires

I have a large nursing home that I do plus two of the owners house's, I do the insides of all three.

External 4 weekly on all and internal 12 weekly, I rotate them so I clean one internal every 4 weeks all great hourly rate.

The nursing home alone is £80 external and can do this alone in an hour, the insides take me 2 hours and I charge double.

It gets easier every time too.

I just burst in there with a spray bottle and a wagtail.

Well worth it IMO.

When I  do my few insides I  charge, 1.5 x outside.

I only have 3 jobs, that I do insides, done regular, no nets or ornament craziness.

I use to do more insides but got fed up as even if asked customers didn't remove nets or clutter off sills.

Had quite a few regular in/out monthlies over the years but always end up dumping, customer starts off Great but by 6+ cleans goes pear shaped😖

They always move the goal posts.
Schedule, agreed times, cancel, skip cleans etc.

The biggest problem for me is the rigidity of it all, as it's an appointment, only do now if it's the first job of the day, otherwise I don't want to know!

Don't want to organise my day around a customer.

I think there is a saying:" There's no grief, like you give yourself!"

I know it shouldn't, but it bothers me when a customer wants insides done asap but they have the insides done every 2+ years.

These are the ones I charge 2x outside but really try my best to steer them into investing towards a karcher window vac 😁

Did think of having insides done on bad weather days only.

e.g. Have a list of customers and phoning through it when weather bad.
But find customers only want done same time as outsides 😐

Also the only one that's flexible is me 😁
