I believe Sky installers use something similar when installing satellite dishes to properties?
However I don't see that it would be practical when clearing gutters because you often have to move the ladder several times and work on at least two sides of the property.
A ladder footing device is a viable alternative.
But I always say if you don't feel confident getting up the ladder, don't do it!
If a customer asks you to clear gutters, you always have the option of saying no.
Yep. No permission to drill an anchor point = no Sky.
The old council properties in Middlesbrough had hooks installed at the corners of each of their properties to tie ladders off. As the workmen worked from one side to the other the straps become longer on one side and shorter on the other.
These days the hooks don't seem to be used much.
I think the issue with ladders and gutter cleans is securing yourself to the ladder so you can use both hands.
We brought a Laddermaster a few years back.
http://www.laddermaster.co.uk/home.htmWe've only used it a couple of times and a waste of money. However, it does a good job of fitting inside the gutter to stop your ladders deforming it. It is also secured on the sides of the gutter with 2 screws and it does stop the ladder slipping side wards. But its weakest link is that it relies on the plastic brackets that hold the gutter to the fascia.
