Anyone got a paid ad on Yell?
« on: February 06, 2018, 11:02:48 am »
I have a free listing at moment which advertises my business and any reviews but on searches come up very low on first page. Ones that have obviously paid come up at top or thereabouts! Some of these business's are based no where near my area which is frustrating so I think its time to change that!

Been many a year since we had a Yell paid advert and it was a total waste of money, they are happy to keep selling you expensive contracts but their knowledge is poor - invest in better web site and a some one who can promote this and get it up the google rankings

Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

Agreed.

Yell is a dying breed of business. I found by far the best way to advertise is Google Adwords; word of mouth; and direct contact either through leflet drops or canvassing.  I also found that if you are on a job and you dont clean the neighbours house yet, just popping by with a friendly smile and a handshake to introduce yourself as nexts doors window cleaner and ask them if they would like to go onto the round as well? That works very well and i have started doing that.

Steer clear of Checkatrade type websites, unless you want to be wallowing in the mire of constant price matching you end up doing the work for less profit and become less interested in providing a good service. Quite a few of my recent customer acquisitions had prev window cleaners just not bother to turn up anymore and they were found on checkatrade.

I've just came to the end of my 12 month contract and I'm glad to be rid of it. I was paying £200 per month so £2400 for the length of the contract and I'll be lucky if it brought me that in work. I did get a couple of decent contracts from it but by and large it was people from areas where I didn't really clean wanting one offs, the thing is you would normally never bother with them but because they've came to you via this contract that you're shelling out £200 per moth for you begrudingly do them, eventually you become self loathing. Stay away!!

If they are not doing a good job for these businesses, they certainly won't for yours.
