Saw a very nice 2014 Expert with 30,000 miles at a local car dealer at a very good price. I'm tempted but it's the 1.6 Hdi engine that's holding me back ....

I remember someone on here mentioning that they could be troublesome. What sort of problems do they get - is it the DPF or something? Is this not the same engine that is used in the Partner & Berlingo also?

Would be interested to hear other peoples experience on this ...

I was told vivaros were bad I bought a 2006 model had it ten years never had a major problem at all . It's all down to the maintenance of the vehicle you look after it well and you shouldn't have any major issue s

I had a 2008 1.6 dispatch. It lacked pulling power. Get a 2.0 if you can.
We look at them, they look through them.

the 1.6 is a bit tempermentle it needs reguler oil changes and if you miss a survice your in trouble as the oil pick up feed pipe is a fine gores mesh and as the 1.6 runs hotter it causes the oil to go lumpy wich blocks the pump pick up feed gorse quicker the engine poops its self and its a long prosess to get it sorted . ide avoide the 1.6 and get the 2.0 but the 2.0 is good but dont let the fuel go to low allways keep at least £20 in it

I had a 2008 1.6 hdi it was a pile of poo.

Underpowered and no end of engine and turbo troubles.

The 2.0 is the one at that age

The newest ones are much better though even in the 1.6 version.

Thanks all for your advice. I'll keep my eyes open for a 2.0 version.

I have the 1.6. No trouble whatsoever since blanking the EGR valve off. Prior to blanking it off it used to pump black smoke out for fun and the EGR valve failed 3 times in one year!! Oil changed twice a year and serviced once a year.
The 2.0 is probably preferable if given the choice but don't be put off a 1.6 if it is the right money.

Oh, and that 1.6 engine and gearbox is used in loads of other vehicles including Fords.

there not the best vans , ebay  has  been full of them  with blown motors for sale

how ever like all vans its how its been looked after from new thats counts , if its cheap , and its been very well looked after and not been beaten to death then you would be foolish not to think about buying it

its got the right miles on it and if it still smells new and never been smoked in and looked after like a car then it sounds ok

do you buy a well looked after 1.6 thats been serviced to death or a  2,0 thats had its head kicked in every where it been driven ?

The 1.6 engine might be OK in a smaller van like the Belinngo, but in a van the size of a Dispatch it is under powered and am sure that contributes to some of the problems many report e.g. issues with the turbo.

I don't agree. It's a work van to serve a specific purpose- not a race car or tractor. Mine pulls 500ltr no problem. My 1250cc multijet doblo pulled 400ltrs no problem either.
It may be less power than a 2.0 granted,  but the 1.6 is certainly up to the job. 👍

I think the issue is that when people use the van as their main transport mode out of work, there's a tendency to want more. But at the end of the day it's a van. As long as it fulfills its role safely and to a certain standard the rest is fluff.

I do agree with dd, I test drove a 1.6 Dispatch a few years ago when I was looking to purchase a van.
The difference in driving performance between it and the smaller 1.6 Peugeot Partner I ended up buying was significant.
The Dispatch was about 3 years old with 30,000 on the clock so certainly not a banger, but seemed sluggish to me and that was driving unladen!
