Second van for Employee
« on: January 30, 2018, 11:17:05 am »
So things are progressing at a pace i'm happy with.  In the next few months i'm seriously looking into a second van and getting a load of new work in for my employee.  Ideally will be looking at a 650L tank with twin setup.  Thing im unsure about is what van to get.  I dont want to get a really expensive or a new van it just seems pointless going down the route of employing and also because i dont have the capital at the moment money is tight as im expanding.  I want to have my second van as a cheaper van than my transit custom with the pure freedom setup.  Thinking of spending about 3k on a van was thinking a vivaro or a transit but realistically what can i get for my money that ideally will last atleast 2-3 years.  Looking for something with between 70-90k miles on clock if possible.  For expanding your business getting a van for employees how much would you like to pay for a van that will last but also on a budget.  Not getting a van on finance.

What do yall recommend please.

Cheers

I would avoid vivaro's like the plague - but then i had nothing but problems with mine - should be safer if you can get 09 or newer

Of all the vans, the Boxer has been a real outstanding vehicle - short wheel base low top - nippy - reliable and a great turning circle i can get into spaces and places that even the car won't go ! - good weight carrying capacity  and roomy cargo area - we fit more in this than the vivaro

only bad point is the drivers position is a little upright and the handbrake is on the right by the door ( not good when your short and wearing shorts - if you get my drift )

Hi Darran,

Thanks for your advice i know you have a good amount of vans on the road, so will look into the boxer instead of a vivaro.  Ideally looking for something less than 10 years old anyway so 08 onwards would be ideal less than 90k on the clock preferrably.

I'll keep looking round for next few months to get an idea of what will be a good deal and keep an eye out try and get a bargain if i can.  dont need the van for atleast 3-6 months.

Ahh , you are at the stage where it all went pear shaped for me  ;D
The Glory Days , you have the perfect worker while he is under your nose in your van , you go get him a van and suddenly the work starts to  get sub standard , the custies suddenly dont like yer man anymore , sickness seems to hit at least every Monday !!!

I dont mean to be mean but look out , the rough road starts here !
My experience is over 4 workers mind you , they all started perfect , they all ended up jobless  ;D

My advice , get a reliable tidy cheapy , if they still meet your criteria then that is when you treat them  ;)
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

thats the road i took, other than the vivaro its always worked out well - i'd go for older and tidy than a newer scruffy one - check to see who has owned it before anything to do with builders ran away from

good luck and keep us posted on how things go
