Need advice on buying a new ladder
« on: January 11, 2018, 10:50:12 pm »
I need to buy a new ladder for use on a 2 storey house.  What height of ladder would I need?  Is screwfix a good place to buy? Anybody got a ladder they could recommend.
Cheers

I use the Lyte 10m commercial ladder which is a good solid ladder, I only use it for gutters though.

Ramsey window cleaning ladders ( pointers) are very good we have them in 3 , 3.5  4 and 5 meter lengths 3.5 meter one will easily reach gutters on a normal housing estate 2 storey house , they are a very durable ladder try googling Ramsey ladders and have a look

What ever you buy, buy a pointed ladder.

The advantages are so obvious over a standard ladder they are hardly worth pointing out.

Ramsey are a reliable make. I hardly use ladders any more but I still have a 7ft A frame and an 18 ft double A frame (both Ramsey) which when I was trad years ago did all that I needed.

Don't forget the WAHR (working at height regulations) that 6m is really the highest you can go if you work alone only if you have some type of extra stabilisation on the ladder - like articulated feet which I highly recommend regardless.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

standard 3.5 m trade ladders(2 section).you can buy them from any builders merchants.ive had mine for many years.they only get used for opening gates and the odd balcony/flat roof these days.
price higher/work harder!

What about this one? Would it be high enough for a housing estate 2 storey to do gutters?  Sorry I haven't bought a ladder before!

I'd go for the 14 rung double or the equivalent max height in the triple.

Ramsay ladders.

If you can't stretch to the A frames try the d rung ones, the most comfortable and safe ladder I have worked off.

I wouldn't like to use a ladder again without articulated feet. Use one of those thick outside rubber mats under the feet as well for added safety.

Does anyone been buying on this site?
http://www.laddersukdirect.co.uk/trade-extension-ladders/professional-triple-extension-ladders-643.html#/37-extension_ladder_sizes-2_42m_5_22m

Also this ladder is the same as this one?
http://www.ladders4sale.co.uk/Trade-Triple-Extension-Ladders-9.asp

Also I found ladder clamps on screwix for 20 quid but looks like if I take ladder and ladder clamps from ladder4sale will be cheaper than buy it separately.
