SIGN WRITING
« on: January 08, 2018, 06:51:49 pm »
Will need  sign writing for my van in the near future.

I have a fiat doblo cargo not looking for anything to exotic.

Sides and back doors, basically getting it done as a deterrent to stop doors being broken in.

Heard some guys using diy ebay kits?

What do signage shops charge nowadays?

Can any recommend a design website.
Remember reading on here about £5 designers??

Thanks lee

Ps I live in Waltham abbey Junction 26 M25 if anyone knows a decent signage place near me

You should be able to get a really professional looking extensive job done for a couple of hundred on that size van we have a renault master with loads on it and was only £300

Hi Lee, you are thinking of fiver.com .
Freelance designers design logos for you online. There are other options out there too. Just google logo design. There are several sites where you enter your text and trade and it generates lots of logos in different fonts and styles from its database. Choose one you like and the high res artwork gets e mailed to you.

We used a spray bottle with dish washing liquid to apply the stickers on a few commercial vehicles we sold. (My van isn't lettered up.) This allows the stickers to move so you can get the air bubbles out. If you don't then that's it. Once finished you need to leave the van until the lettering dries. (Gently warming them with a hair drier will speed the process up without concentrating heat in one spot.)

For those bubbles you can't get out, a small pin prick will allow the air to escape so you can press the sticker home in that spot.

We have never bothered to get either van stickered up. We have grown our customer base without that and the round is full. So the question is; do you need to sticker it up?

Personally, if I was going to do it myself I would wait until the warmer weather.

Got mine from the exact same guy, £100 all in for a tranny t280 and it basically filled the van out.

I do have to be honest though i would think twice about doing it again (self fitting) it took a while and was awkward here and there. I did order some design that looking back did make my job a lot harder.

I've done 3 vans and it's really easy.

The logos etc are supplied on squared off backing paper so its only a case of eying it up level on the van then stick a piece of tape on each corner. Once happy put a long piece of tape vertical down the middle and take off the 4 corner pieces. You now have the vinyl secured down the middle. Pull of the backing on one side of the tape line pull it tight and apply, a cloth, a sponge anything will do. Then pull off the tape and apply the other side.

Lettering you'll struggle to get bubbles, bigger images you might but just pop them out, you won't notice them unless you are really inspecting

If you want to diy it, watch some YouTube vids first, like most things, there's plenty of them. The simpler the design, the easier the job is going to be. I've done my own in the past as well as window tints. Its not difficult but preparation and taking your time is key.

Lee

If you want sign writing as a deterrent then you can do it yourself. Wait until the weather gets warmer and get a friend to help (you will...both... need a good eye!). And patience.

If you want to take your business to a new level then get a good local signwriter to design, produce and apply it for you.

I'm a graphic designer, so I designed mine myself and showed the signwriters what I wanted. Money well spent for all the walkups i've had.
