Ben,

You may wish to back wash your 4040 menbrane before you make another purchase. You simply connect your water supply to the permeate output of your R/O housing. Dont forget to disconnect your pre filters first!. According to GE, the manufacturers of the merlin, its life expectancy @ 600ltrs per day in avarage TDS (250TDS) water is only 6 months so it maybe better to replace your R/O membrane if it really is shot.

Regards
Carl.

Hi Ben

You could just buy a new membrane. Its costs about the same as a merlin and is very easy to replace.
If you live in a hard water area the 4040 is better at removing tds also you need good tap pressure for the merlin to work effectively. In saying that we use a merlin it brings our tds from 100ppm to 1 or 2 ppm and it fills 1000lit ibc tank in about 7 hours so we are very happy with it.

i run a merlin myself and dont have any problems with it. my tap water is 190ppm and after the merlin it reads 10ish. i do however have a good tap pressure of about 75psi. if you dont have a good pressure you will not get good results sadly.

if however your pressure is good you shouldnt have any probs.......but then if your pressure is good you should also get decent economy out of your 40/40.

I think the six months refers to the carbon filter not the membrain...

and its not at 600ltrs per day, at that the merlin isn't functioning at all, I'd def recommend merlin but if you have a 4040 already I'd backflush it half a dozen times, if that doesn't work just get a new membrane.
