van system connections.
« on: December 21, 2017, 08:30:09 pm »
Is anyone using john guest to connect from tank to pumps and reels?

What are you guys all using?

I have 1/2" hose at the minute but looking to upgrade so I can A) try using hot water and B) tidy things up in the back of van and C) easily connect/disconnect if needed.

Thanks

speed fit tubing and fittings (15mm) from tank to pumps not to reel though as that swivels so just use hosepipe with pro 26 connector.
Went the speedfit route as you can get all the parts from plumbase/ screwfix and dont have to order online.

Yeah, I've done this.
1/2" pipe and fittings from Gardiners, but like p1 says, you can get them from a plumbers merchants.
I got 90 degree fittings, threaded to 1/2" outlets on the pump and strainers. I also got a shut off tap, so if I alter pipework or have a reel/hose problem, I can isolate the flow.
I have a Koreel reel and it has the chunky industrial swivel elbow joint on it. I bought the threaded 1/2" JG fitting for that too and put the pipe straight on it. All neat and tidy.

I have the clover type reels so have just brass swivel elbows, trying to find a way to connect these to speedfit.

All you can do that i can think of is , hozelock onto swivel with a short length of normal hose , jubilee clip onto a short piece of 15mm copper , then into speedfit JG .
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

I've asked a similar question recently, and was given the answer to how to connect to a shurflo pump with push fit, just check back to find it. Elsewhere i seen pics of a set up that incorporated JG Speedfit to the reel, this i think is what you need. I'm doing mine this week coming while i'm off (oxymoron)... so if its the right one i'll let you know........

If I'm right, the shurflo pump I use is 1/2", so that fitting wont fit.

I'm going to use these:     https://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-pkmbtc1514p-bent-tap-connectors-15mm-x/12129#product_additional_details_container    to connect to the pumps.

And coming off the reel I will use the pro26 swivel from Gardiner, then add these:     http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/pump-hose/hose-fittings-adapters/pro-026-couplings/pro-026-endstop-to-1-2-screw.html
from the above i will connect these:     https://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-pse3201wp-tap-connectors-white-15mm-x-2-pack/29175

Will then pipe up from there. I am going to use 15m copper tube as its only slightly more expensive than the plastic tube but you dont have to buy inserts which will make it a lot more expensive overall.

Coming out of the water tank i will use this:   http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/pump-hose/hose-fittings-adapters/fittings-barbs-adapters-etc/screw-thread-fittings/female-to-male-reducing-bush.html           and add this to it:         https://www.screwfix.com/p/jg-speedfit-15mc-1-2-cylinder-connector-male/23662. And add a tap.

this will give me everything i need.

I'm not wanting any hose on the set-up, I would rather have it all speedfit etc so I can try using hot water to see if it helps at all.

Can you not use the above Paul? I've run my pipe from the pumps alongside the van ply using the white hose clips, ( you can buy at plumbing / builders centres) they hold the pipe close and tidy to the side, then with the 1/2" screw fitting which fits into the reel swivel elbow, just plug your pipe in! You could fit a tap

So if you need to work on the reel for any reason you can isolate the flow.

I have 1/2 hose from tank to pump, and pump to reel barbs on the pump with jubilee clips, hozelock connector and swivel elbow on reel, with swan neck on house outlet, with 8mm adapter for the hose itself.
I find it easier having the hoses it means the reel can be removed if need be,rather than it being stuck in the  van and the hose getting jammed.

that fitting wont connect to my swivel elbows.

I’ve used washing machine hoses throughout. They’re perfectly compatible with hoseloc reducers which fit shuffling pumps. On the reel connection I just cut off the fitting and fitted a hoseloc female connector. Always use fuel pipe clamps instead of jubilee clips. Colour coordinated pipes look professional.

ive just nelt on my van floor covered with lino,     crack,      looked under lino and its soacked,     need to get it all out and dry it all,  i knew i had leaks from hose reel to pole hose connector,   but thought too small a leak,         how wrong was i,     i let it build up as its covered,    crap
is there a more secure leak free fitting instead of the  e z snap, male to female connectors i use   from gardiners
this seems to be the main culprit.

Maybe visit a hydraolics company to ask

its not the connector that is leaking, it will be the hose on the connector. What method are you securing the hose to the connector with?  You need these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MIKALOR-DOUBLE-SINGLE-EAR-CLIPS-O-CLAMP-ZINC-PLATED-STEEL-10-OR-20-PACK/222548116827?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=521392284602&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649  if you don't have the crimping pliers,

they can be got from most tool suppliers, but you can use side cutters, like wire snips in the meantime.

I've used the rectus 26 fittings from Gardiners, they are fine and leak free on the straight male to female but the hose reel swivel elbow is absolutely crap,it leaks on the swivel, not where they connects and am very disappointed as they are not cheap.

just ordered a swivel reel fitting , cheapest from vyair believe it or not.  £6+ with  delivery in my reel fell out of van and landed on that side,  must of damaged it,   also leaked.
