Hi guys as I convert from Di to ro setup I’m wondering when fitting the axeon hf5 membrane is there any special conditions I need to do like run water through it slowly or leave the waste tap fully open for a period of time etc on installation
I believe with the prefilter I run water through that for a period of time due to the charcoal?

Here's what i do. With pre filters (sediment filter & Fibredyne filter)  i just dunk them in a bucket full of water (sort of give them a rinse for a minute) and put them in their housings all connected up. Then with the membrane once it's in the housing  and all connected up i'll run the R/O for about 10- 15 mins max through the pre-filters and membrane with the waste tap fully open. After that i'll set the waste tap to whatever rejection ratio i have and run it again for 5 mins tops before i connect it to my DI vessel to start making my water.

I never just run water through the membrane without it going through the per-filters first when flushing the membrane or after fitting a new one.
Other may agree or disagree but this is the way i've always done it and never had problems, it may even be overkill.

thanks pal good advice, i just want to get it nailed properly if its probably gonna be in for a few years hopefully.
next question whats best way of setting up the waste to pure lol and am i best fitting a diverter tap before the di then so everytime i fill up for the first 10mins i believe the ppm reading is quite high?

Just before my DI vessel i have a tap (diverter) that i turn on when the R/O first starts up, as yes as you say the first few litres of water the ppm with be a lot higher once its come down (i have an inline tds meter) i then turn it off and let it go through the D/I vessel. I reckon 10 mins is probably not necessary as it will come right down quicker then that.
I would recommend getting an inline tds meter as then you can see what the actual ppm is after your membrane.
My input tds is around 580 and after the membrane and before DI it usually brings it down to around 14ppm. So when it first fires up tds after the membrane is around 80-90 and after a minute or so it brings it down to 14 i know then to turn the diverter off.

Thanks pal that’s what I’m thinking put an in-line TDS meter before Di and after it too.
I’m hoping it should be done into single figures with my tap TDS of 76ppm and using a hf5 membrane!

I can't See point of why you run water I change my filters membrane and resin and run it straight into tank never had a problem. In my opinion that's what all the new stuff is for to give you 000 tds

I don’t quite understand your post pal, when you say run water are you talking about flushing the membrane?

Agh right so when u say you don’t bother flushing membrane of filters, are you not concerned about the chemicals that supposedly left behind on the filters when they’re manufactured as I’ve seen people say flush them for up to an hour until ppm comes down?

No not realy never had a problem with it . Dont even flush them through anytime but everyone s got different preferences.

I’ve heard a few various comments on flushing and I’ve heard people say they never flush the membrane and others do it religiously every other day!!
Does it not affect membrane life or TDS results?

It might do but I can get at least two years out of it and I go through quite a bit of water .the people that try to prolong membrane s are penny pinching in my eyes .if you break down price of the membrane over two years it works out at 2 pounds a week

Just to add I only do the above when installing new pre filters or membranes. I generally only flush the membrane for 5 mins here and there once it's all running.

Cheers guys my mate David wood said gaps water told him u don’t really need to flush these membranes anymore too so I think I’ll just flush it for 5-10 every time I go to fill up and maybe a good half hour when I’ve done the innitial first filling too and then monitor the ppm
