Yes I think about it,I have no mortgage as I've paid it off,a good pension pot, money invested, and a years running costs for my house and family in the bank, and no debts
So I'm I a good place,

Wow. That's extremely impressive Colin. I doubt many have achieved that position.

The possibility of someone not being able to work through poor health is a very real one. I think it's something people should be concerned about and plan for. Just wondering what plan people have if any but as usual it's like talking to children on here.

Do you have a sickness plan in place for your employees that is above the statutory minimum? Or do you advise them to go self employed like you ? What have you done about this concern in practical terms with your own employees ?

The topic is not about my employees and what they get. It's about the business owner. My plan was always to remove myself from the day to day aspects of the business to concentrate on growth and development only, ultimately to give me more free time to enjoy life. I plan to be semi retired before I'm 40.

Retire? You'll be able to lie in bed all day.

Oh, you already are.

I have been in bed for 3 days and yet, all the work at the office is done and exactly the normal amount of money has been turned over. 10min telephone chat with my office manager today to update me and thats it. I love the fact that I am completely removed from the day to day admin and generating of the money. I can see everything thats going on from home, cleaner planner, the van trackers, the emails ect.

So everything is going to plan for you. You're not interested in what your employees are gonna do when they are sick, but you want to know what a random bunch of strangers like us are gonna do ?

I have similar to Colin, Lee.

Is that "extremely impressive" too? Or did I have a bit of luck to help me along with it?

Doesn't contribute to the topic at all.

What d'you want us to say?

"Ooo, you're clever"?

I dont want you to say anything and it's not about me being clever. The possibility of someone not being able to work through poor health is a very real one. I think it's something people should be concerned about and plan for. Just wondering what plan people have if any but as usual it's like talking to children on here.

all that worry could make you ill! ;D

why worry about something that might never happen?if it happens  ill deal with it then the best way i can.

I cant remember the last time I was this ill! Had to sleep on towels last night as I was soaked in sweat all night. Poor me! haha

Ive had a lot of negative stick for wanting to grow my business ect.  My goals are not all about more money, cars, houses, holidays and this week is a perfect example of that.

I have said many times that dont think any less of someone for staying a one man band, I was one myself after all. But what would happen if a one man band had a sudden health problem, not just a few days off with a cold or flu. What about a broken arm or leg, back problem, cancer ect.......

What do others have in mind for such times? Does anyone even think about it?
Health insurance that will kick in after 3 months of sickness, and 3 months of living costs saved up.

But your dead right, I was swaying to an fro about employing but after a conversation with another local cleaner who has a back problem I'm going to advertise asap.

At least if for no other reason than to keep things going when I'm not.

I have a goal of 10 employees in 5 vans doing 50k per month within the next 5 years putting me in the position to semi retire aged 45, I know people will begrudge  me for saying that!

How hard do you think that'll be lee?

I think if you want something enough and your willing to persevere then you absolutely can do it!
I hope you have looked at all the small print in your health insurance, I have been stung with one of these policies before. They will have you believe you are covered for a payout of X amount of pounds per month, whereas the reality is you will probably get a fraction of what you are expecting due to the fact that most of these companies will  only pay out based on 75% of your net profit.

Quite a number of years ago I needed an operation which required 2 weeks in hospital and 3 months off work.
A number of my friends are shiners and they clubbed together and blitz my round. Took out some money for a pint n meal each at end of day together and gave rest to me n my family. They volunteered to do this.
My bills were covered and my family survived and I had great friends who helped not paid employees.

Moving forward to today if I get too ill to work then its quite simply a day or two off work. If its anything worse than that Im still covered.

Your a JW yeah?  That is one of the benefits of having so many JW's who are window cleaners.  They all help eachother out when they need it, and they do it often without hesitation.

Shame we can't create a network on this forum like that, where if somebody is unwell and can't do there work and has no backup, people couldn't club together to help out.  That would be a way of having like a decent community of window cleaners that actually properly help eachother out when those seriously need help.

Shame it probs wont happen though  ??? ???

I can think of a few who would milk it dry before anyone else was able to get out of bed in the morning.  Some still can’t by all accounts    :P

Would you really want a splash n dash merchant like myself let loose on someone else's round?  Customers would be out complaining," the regular guy takes over an hour and you've just cleaned the whole house in 6 minutes.....in saying that you've done a better job " ;D
