Resin usage . D I. Only
« on: October 24, 2017, 08:46:58 am »
For years I have put my tap water through my double di vessels on a trickle . With the belief that it prolongs the life of the resin . Sometimes over the weekend I can leave it to fill over 48 hours . Now I can fill the tank in half an hour on full blast . So has anyone ever tested the theory that a slow trickle of water does actually prolong the resin . By the way I need pure water in the tank as we fill trollies up straight from the tank . So di after the tank would not work for me . Cheers

Wouldn't have thought it makes any difference...still filtering same amount of water only slowly.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

Agree with JandS, the only thing I could see that might be a problem is the water going too quickly through the resin for it to
do its job but that shouldn't shorten its lifespan.

What's your tap Tds reading .because in my opinion your trying to save money by not using a lot of resin (not having a go ) why don't you use a 4040 ro a mate of mine has had one for nearly three years and over the last year found it's cheaper for him to change membranes once a year filters twice a year and only go through one bag of resin ,He told me he was using a minimum off six bags off resin a year and at £75 a bag that's £450 a year where as doing it the other way saves him £100 a year minimum

When the resin is fresh you will be ok but as it begins to deplete your tds will rise faster with a higher flow.

Plus add the extra water charges for the waste ratio.  Plus the advantage of faster tank filling.

I’m double Di after the tank with a TDS is 75ppm and going through a bag every month or so, I’ve finally given in and building a 4040 ro set up in the van, resin just doesn’t seem to lasting like it used to in my mind :-\

Double DI will save on resin.

Also I remember reading something on here a while back re: the water creating a channel in the resin if you run it through on too  high a flow, causing the ppm to rise more quickly. It usually takes me a couple of hours to fill my 350L tank using double DI - I run the water through fairly slowly. My TDS varies from between 57ppm to 75ppm.

Fill the tank fast and then run it through the di. The way my Facelift Comact is set up probably saves resin and saves you money buying additives as you can't add to the tank before di.

So do you fill your van tank with tap water & then just purify it via the DI vessel(s) between the pump & the brush head whilst you're actually cleaning?

Yes, I was lead to believe that fast filling the tank through the di was likely to shorten the life of the resin. The slower the water passes through the longer it'll last and it was said on here four years ago so it must be true!

Sounds interesting. I think I might try that at some point...

Also it means that that if you run out of water you can refill directly from a customers tap straight into the van tank.

Those annoying customers who always like to tell you where their outside tap is located may turn out to be not so annoying after all  ;D .
