Recently discovered that the cost of paying a cheque into the bank at the machine costs me £1.50 machine fee + 68p cheque fee. I had previously been told that this was free to use so I was a bit ped off when I phoned the bank asking where these charges over last couple of years were coming from.
Question is how do I get the OAP's onto direct debit when they don't have Internet.

It's a great big con.

My bank are closing all their branches. I get charged for cash paid into the business account so why close the branches?

It's for the folk who aren't in on the day, as I don't do "collecting" there are some that will send a cheque and don't have Internet. One customer is over £30 and I won't be dropping them as I have done for there neighbour across the road who took over two months to pay online.  I have izettle which has an invoice facility in which they send automatic reminders until the invoice is paid but you need an email address for that obviously, and the card read is no use if nobody is home. I also use gocardless but as far as I know there's no manual document for the customer.

If it helps you the Sum up card reader also lets you take payment over the phone by logging into your account.

It's a good idea as a another way to pay. Let them decide which they prefer.

I use a card reader to take payments by card on the road.  I use sum up.  Really low rates less than 2% with no fixed fee or monthly fee.  Much better than paypal. You can also take payments over the phone.

The card reader only a few quid and you can get a discount of £30 half price with this link ( also helps me with referral reward  )

Ive just sent 20quid your way as i placed my order the other night.
I have 300 customers and 4yrs into new marriage with 3 kids etc Im fed up of collecting several hours per week to get my money in. So i have some on paypal and recently offered half price cleans to get ones onto gocardless but i have ones who are good payers in the evening. Getting customers to go onto direct debit is proving difficult....any new customers dont get a choice it gocardless or another cleaner. But so far ive only got 25 customers migrated onto D/D  and perhaps 30 on PayPal and about 20 on bank tranfers.
So im not going out to be greeted with "sorry we aint got no money"  im now armed with a card reader to get my payment and its very lttle per transaction that in the grand scheme of things......its way less than the money thats owed each month so its still a win win for me.

I only have 3 custys that I need to collect from, that's become 2 now as 1 of them was a pain.

Moving house in 2 weeks and that's me done with collections altogether as those 2 would now be a 20 min drive Instead of 5 I'm not doing in anymore.

Not that I ever have collected really just 3-4 that were local.

Out of 300 custys I have maybe 30 on go cardless, for some reason it's really hard to get them on it, must be the term Direct debit. About 20 are PayPal and the rest is mainly Bacs with half a dozen on cheques and a few cash on the day
