Steroid injection to elbow?
« on: October 16, 2017, 12:54:51 pm »
I had this yesterday at chelsea and Westminster to reduce possible inflammation in tendon elbows
He said no side effects yet I looked it up and pain is a side effect so much I can't work had to also take ibroProfens last night .. Apparently it's a test to see if that helps otherwise back to GP and get phisio I guess
Right now in annoyed I'm worse off
Anyone else had these injection or similar elbow pain and got treatment from the NHS such as steroid

500mg naproxen I’m on . But physio DOES help , it just takes a lot of time doing what seems like pointless stretches 3 times a day

I get them from wresting, deep tissue massage (get your fingers in) change the grip often that you use on the pole and look up lion yoga pose ,

Erm???? Not sure on question nor gag if it is  ::)roll

Finger locks at first joint after knuckle. Very painful to force it out or to flick it out.
So after getting a handful of change out to sort some change for a customer, the finger would lock and i wont be able to let go of it. Embarrasing situation as i use my other hand to straighten the finger to release it.  Oh and its very painful in doing so

I had tennis elbow a few years back through WFP. Physio made no difference at all, a customer told me it would last 12 months and true to his word it lasted exactly that! Went and never came back since- very painful at times though and drastically reduces your ability to grip- pouring a flask of coffee was a Two handed job!!

I am the same as Peavey, mine is pretty much gone now, hardly hurts at all.
Nothing really helped until I changed all my equipment: extreme pole, xtreme brushes, pole hose instead of microbore, I kept everything light. That made a difference within a short space of time.

The lion pose - interesting - but it doesn't look like it does much for your elbows:

I've a theory that weight training, running and a regular stretching regime helps prevent injuries of this sort.

Had it for years. just got worse and worse. Couldn't pick up kettle or wipe my bum (serious)
Had injection etc. Nothing. Had operation on tennis and golfers elbow at the same time. Worked a treat. Took 1 year to fully work

Yes I had steroid and hydroquartisone injections for a number of years due to tennis elbow in my right arm , personally found they worked quite well but it has to be injected in just the right spot otherwise it does nothing , hope you are feeling better soon it’s not a pleasant thing to try and work with

I went to the doctors last week I was diagnosed with Golfers elbow, I've been put on Naproxen for a mont if that doesn't wok I've been told that i can have steroid injections, however after your experience sounds like its not a very good idea.

Don't know if its anything to do with it but I've had the last 6 months off the GYM. Ive decided I'm going to go back and see if that makes a difference.

I know exactly what you are going through, its very painful.

Your tendons have tightened and shortened with the repetition of wfp work. The only real cure is stretching them out again and this will take time. An injection will only mask the pain. In fact injections for tendonitis are no longer recommended in all but the most serious cases and seen as a last resort. If not administered properly an injection can cause permanent damage to the tendon. No, I'm not an expert but this is how it was explained to me by a specialist earlier this year. Having suffered it before 10 years ago and knowing how painful the effects of the injection can be for a few days after ( sometimes even worse than the original discomfort )  I was happy to take their advice. I've followed their instruction on stretching plus have tried to add an even and broader range of movement and grip in both arms and hands whilst working. And although not completely free from tennis elbow yet, 8 months on its remarkably better and although I can still feel it, does not hinder or prevent me from working.

There is a Velcro fastening strap you can buy that adds support and compresses the inflamed area of the tendon and gives some pain relief whilst working.

Massage the area as much as you can too, there are YouTube videos on the most effective way to do this, it will promote blood flow which in turn will aid the healing process.

how can working out in the gym with weights do your "golfers elbow" any good? ::)roll id ask the doctor first.theres probably some specific elbow exercises thatll help( but not proper weight training while your suffering.)

ive never had anything more than the usual aches and pains and the odd little niggle in my elbows.

i do think weight training over the last 2 years has helped me with WFP window cleaning though.i very rarely have any problems whether its neck, back, arms etc.
