Gardiner Angle Adapter SOLID
« on: October 12, 2017, 06:18:15 pm »
Got another new SLX. SO I got a new Uni valve etc.
Came to remove the angle adapter from my 2 month old SLX. SOLID!!! I have had very tight ones before. They expand but this was solid. I was a mechanic for years, so know all about getting solid things out. Took me half hour of smashing it with a hammer and WD40 etc. I even considered cutting it out. What a ball ache. Its knackered the angle adapter and scraper. Its not the first time its happened to me.
I got it out and put it on the grinder. Must have taken 3mm off and it still wont go in. So its going in the bin. Ill contact Alex. I am sure he will send another out. It shouldn't happen. Don't mind it going tight but it was solid.
I had a metal one in my tin. It went in like butter. I am guessing its a 4 year old Gardiner one but don't know off what. They are all plastic now.
Anyone else had the same problem

I had exact same problem, I still can’t get it out and I only got my slx earlier this year . I did email Gardiners and they basically said use a wrench or something like that and twist it and pull it.  Iv come to the conclusion that’s it’s there forever now   :-\

He needs to sort this problem out.
I tried a vise and twist etc. When I say solid. It was solid. Took 10 mins for it to move. I nearly posted the first section back to him.
It wont have don't the clamp any good. Don't think he would warrant a snapped pole from hitting with a hammer.
My question is. Why not use a metal tube section, like shown in the picture.

yep! same problem 2 x clx's and my slx all jammed rock solid.

had to pull so hard I was scared of damaging something, either the pole or me!

bought a new swivel adapter and didn't fit for ages until I realised I could just swap it from adjustable screw part!

still think its a major downfall from gardiners poles, I love they're stuff but now I'm looking for a new slx I'm wandering if there is another brand that matches the slx without the same problem?

I had this happen on a CLX and I managed to remove it without damage eventually but it was very difficult.
However I'm sure there's something in the care & maintenance instructions supplied with the poles that says that you should remove the sections and clean them to prevent the sections sticking. I have done since and not had any issues at all.

Never had a problem myself , some time ago i had one that was a bit stiff , it seemed to have a seam on the stem of the insert , i filed it down a bit and was fine , also , right at the top where the neck bends you have some moulded (ribs) if you like , I never put these into the clamp , I only ever clamp on the smooth surface , this could be the cause .
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

I once got a new pole and it didn't go in the square part. Sent me a new one and all was ok. I think quality control is at fault

It should go into the moulded (ribs) if you like! The only ridged (non swivel) angle adaptor I have doesn't fit and one or two of the square quick loq adaptor parts are the same so when cleaning gfs I need to unscrew the top section of the swivel to fit the other. It's a bit extreme to suggest changing the brand of pole though! Don't think I have the balls to get a Neon or the like.

Duncan you need to calm down first. I know you're frustrated but you need to contact Alex directly. You will find their customer service second to none, as are their poles.

Hi Duncan

(Copy below of an email just sent to you.)

Apologies that you have had this issue. I have checked out all of your posts on the forum this evening and will copy this reply in on the public forum. If you had given us a call first of all we may have been able to advise how to remove this more easily.

Obviously the base part will have been faulty - it may have expanded slightly past standard tolerances whilst cooling off the mould or may even have bent slight when cooling off the mould which has caused this issue later down the line for you. .

This is an issue that happens occasionally with a small % of these parts. It is to do with tolerances and moisture absorption of the plastic part - this is why the part will have worked well from new (they are all thoroughly checked on the poles before being sent out by our quality control team), but when left in the pole for a period of time the nylon expands as it absorbs moisture allowing it to expand past the tolerance point. The pole was bought in May so would have had 4 and a bit months to have become stuck. If these goosenecks are removed occasionally for cleaning/servicing you will usually find that this would not have jammed to this degree - not that it should have become jammed in the first place.

I have copied this email in to our Customer Service Team so that they call you tomorrow to arrange the sending out of a replacement base part to prevent this from being an issue again.

Whilst the rate of incidence is under 0.5% of production it is still something that I would like to eliminate completely - we supply about 1,500 of these goosenecks each month into the UK market so even a small amount with poor tolerances will still mean that an unacceptable number of clients are affected, later in the poles life. We have already designed an improvement to the tooling to reduce the incidence of this happening. As you can appreciate this takes quite some time though, from tooling changes being implemented to getting the stock into the warehouse.

In the meantime please accept my apologies and the replacement parts that will be sent out by our team tomorrow.

Kind regards

Alex Gardiner

I have never had bad service anywhere i have bought from , and i have even shopped with Brodex , plus i have to say that i was amazed at the service i got from them , i must be the 1 in a million though !
I bought the set of Hydra ally poles on special offer 7,18 and 25 foot all for £160 , the box turned up battered to hell , 2 sections of the 25 were dented and so was the base section of the 18 , i was told to email pics , i did and the new sections were with me the next day !
I even got told to keep the dented ones , which were perfectly usable anyway , i still have the poles now !
I'm so lazy I'm getting tired of it !

Using the carbon goosenecks eliminates this issue, but then again, they don’t suit everyone!

I still would never use any other company for water fed pole supply’s.

Thought about that, but not sure. It would still expand from the inside.
He sent me a ne one out (but no scraper grrr) I tried it in my brand new slx 35, its quite tight. Resorted to using an old metal one. Not risking knackering a £500 pole up
