I can see how the psychology of working for money that you already have can affect some people .... However I would prefer to do this rather than having to chase non or slow payers ,,,,

But payment for 3 cleans in advance,,,... I've never had that! Only one clean in advance for me.

I have a couple who pay a year up front but to be honest the way I look at it there's always someone  that owes double or triple so it balance s out at end of each week

id never do that.if shes paid then they get cleaned.

ive picked up some good jobs over the years off window cleaners who take the money and dont do the cleans.customers are not stupid.i picked up a £30 job the other week on a very nice estate simply because the other window cleaning company was bumping the job but taking the money.scumbags if you ask me.

It’ll only make my job harder at the end of the 3 months! She’s a nice old lady 👵, I couldn’t do that to her or anyone for that matter.... but thanks for your suggestion  ;D

The worst part about our job is collecting the money in afterwards and so if customers want to pay me up front im all for it.  I used to have a chap pay 6months up front, at first i wasnt too happy whenever it came to clean his house (for the reasons which some have stated above). But it helped me change my mind on it and i kinda wished all my customers would pay upfront. There was a time when i wished there was a middle man, who paid me say 80 - 90%  of my work upfront each month and he did all the collecting to get his money back plus a wage for knocking on doors asking for payment. (Yep that was going back some years)
But we have GoCardless now  ;D ;D and they take an even smaller cut  ;D

Joking to side, i dont mind the odd customer paying upfront for my window cleaning side of the business.

Getting paid is definitely the worst part of the job. I've lost count of the bad payers I've had to dump.

Also still amazes me in this day and age people can't/won't pay online.

I have very few who simply won't pay online, maybe a dozen at most.

Still annoying, I never collect them I always let it roll over to the next clean and hope they will be in next time.

Go cardless is great but it's another job to try and get them on it. It can be as hard to convert someone to pay go cardless over bank transfer as it is to get a cash custys to pay online. I think it's the "direct debit" word that scares them and the lack of control they feel.

I think your right, when ive spoken to some customers they seem OK and willing but as soon as you say DirectDebit its game over. So im learning not to specifically say the word.
Im new to GoCardless and ive printed a letter about it and some common questions/concerns they may have are listed on the letter and my website. This seems to help, but ive also included a small incentive. If they sign up before their next clean they get the clean at half price. This tact seems to be working well!!
Ild sooner be down in wage a little, if it means collecting my money more efficiently in the future rather than carrying debt over  ;D
