How Long Do Your Work Boots Last?
« on: September 16, 2017, 09:10:38 pm »
I have been using DeWalt Bolster Safety Boots from Screwfix & am now onto my third pair. They are very comfortable & well priced at £39.99 but have only been lasting me 10 to 11 months at most. I wear them most days but am a little disappointed that they are wearing out so soon... it's the sole that wears out first & then they start letting water in.

Is this normal in our line of work? Or am I just being tight in buying a cheapo pair of boots?

Have been wearing my caterpillars for 5 years now (blinking hell lm a scruff) they dont even look that bad.

Love em although lve just realised its time for some more. Theyre still functional if not aesthetic.

Never worn them. Just wear trainers.

Might get some for winter if it gets cold.

When i was on ladders on trad work my boots wouldnt last that long at all. The sole would split across the width due to ladder work. So when i switched to wfp i was hoping they would then last even longer and so i started to buy expensive and comfortable boots and became bitterly annoyed when i wasnt getting through a year.
So ive reverted back to spending about 40 or less on them as it doesnt seem to matter.
Well thats my experience anyways

The site boots are great value and long lasting however I found that they don't breath very well and your feet end up wet from sweat and stinking!!  ;D

we were talking to some 500 pound a day trad lads last week  and we now wear 15 year old trainers with no touges in them and only the first hole tied with the laces due to them being to short due to  snapping

think this is wear we were going wrong !

before this doc shoes for all the lads in the summer , then army boots in the winter , you will wear your feet out before you wear the army boots out and due to the lads all being ex army you can shave in them there that shiny !

Thanks all.

Think I'll give Caterpillar a go next time...  Looking at the Treadfresh website they seem to have a much better sole than my DeWalt Bolster Safety Boots.

Like the pun!

Problem with trainers is they don't give much ankle support & also you can't claim them on the business.

I'm on my 4th or 5th pair of these. Got lucky at go outdoors when they were offering a lifetime guarantee on similar boots. Had them upgraded to these as they discontinued the original pair. Cost me £74.99 originally and not paid a penny since. 😂

In answer to the question though, even these boots only last around 12-18 months before the soles are flapping and all the seems are split

Search on ebay for British army gortex pro boots

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRITISH-ARMY-GORETEX-PRO-BOOTS-VARIOUS-GREAT-SIZES-BLACK-ARMY-BOOTS-NEW-/201542401747?var=&hash=item2eecdcfed3:m:mCOJ3qz3yyuQdgLFHoG081g

They need breaking in, but once that's over with, they're a comfortable and totally waterproof boot that should last for a good few years.

Stick a bit of polish on them.

Wear them with decent socks (I buy army socks too).

I used to wear berghaus goretex boots. They used to normally last 18 months or so but the last pair only 10 months before leaking.very disappointed so I've bought some solid caterpillar boots with composite toe.feels like they'll last year's but time will tell.fully waterproof. £120 so not cheap but worth it if they last a few years.
price higher/work harder!
