what size pole
« on: September 05, 2017, 09:26:04 pm »
I use a SLX 25 with a no6 intention. Done nearly all my domestic jobs needed for 4 years. Now houses are all 3 story with velex windows. What pole is needed to reach them.
What size pole would be needed to reach the top of this roof. I could reach a low level velex but I have a house with 2 offset. One is near the top of the roof.
Going to have to get a pole to do these jobs. Not many of then, so want to spend as little as poss

I clean loads of these 3 story Bovis homes. you can reach  all the windows easily with a 25ft pole but i have the two extension sections on my Gardiner, to get the velux on the rears, an extended goose neck would help as well to clear the gutters and you are well into the garden to get access.
Something else to watch with these houses, they use two types of window on them, the ones with the proud Georgion frets are much more time consuming and awkward than those with internal frets.

i can reach them windows with a 25 footer(albeit at full stretch) so you ll easily be able to reach them with a 30 footer.no need for another pole.

They dont look dissimilar to the ones i clean. I use a slx25 and fully extended but im not over reaching though. But i am just shy of 6ft though (so i supppse it depends how tall you are mate)

Just buy the next extension(s) up for your present pole. Add them when you need to.

My first Gardiners pole was an SLX35 and I just ran it as a 20 for my 2 storey work and added the bigger sections as and when I needed them.
It's a game of three halves!

If you don't want to spend the money on a pole and want to clean the Velux.  Arrange to clean them when the customer is home. That way you can clean from inside by reversing the Velux, price accordingly.

I reach most with my 25 plus 1 extension, but they are getting higher. Another extension is £100. When I have the dosh I with buy a 35/40.
Guessing 2 extensions weighs more  than a standard pole?

Loads . West Yorkshire is defo the window cleaning capital of England. And most seem to think they own the place . One guy I spoke to on that estate said he could wallpaper the room with the amount of window cleaning leaflets he had posted .

The first thing you need to do on velux id don`t use the top section of any pole its too floppy work with the second section as the top of the pole.

Haha. Trust me to be born here. No wonder these new estates get sewn up so fast. You need to be quick then.

Yeh , that estate is finished , got told there's at least 6 different windys working it . There's only 60 houses on it . You know the big estate opposite lupset a bit further up from morrisons . Tried that but couldn't be bothered in the end . It's rammed with em on there all undercutting each other . Trad teams doing em a fiver a pop . A few wfp vans not much dearer .

Madness isnt it. I know that estate i have one on there! haha thats what its like though, one here, one there...its impossible to build compact work unless of course you are dirt cheap or had a round for decades...the one i have is a 3 bed semi at 12 quid. No chance when guys are doing them for half that.

The only good thing about having work spread out is less chance of losing a chunk in one go to canvassers.

A few years ago I tried some newish estates near my brothers new house to try and get a few jobs to make cleaning my brothers house worthwhile.

I couldn't believe how cheap the other window cleaners were.no chance of picking up any jobs . ridiculously low prices for 4 and 5 bed houses (some with connys).  ::)roll
