tank bolted in!
« on: August 13, 2017, 09:15:11 pm »
finally got this tank done!

https://youtu.be/tsdZr4W3txA

the fabricator cut the bottom of the frame off for me and built it up with new iron, cut all the excess weight off and i give it a paint job.

Ideally l wouldn't of bolted it through the floor but to have it in the position l wanted it, I had to. Never mind!

The guy put it in with 10m bolts so l went to screwfix and bought some m12 high tensile and drilled the holes a little bigger today.

To re-fab the frame and put it in was £130 , money well spent in my opinion.

Now l want to re-position the reels and pumps etc, so still a WIP.

And it looks like they managed to arrange the holes they drilled so they didn't have to remove the fuel tank.

Glad you go it sorted in the end.

Just need to get those plates painted on both sides to protect against rust. My other suggestion is to turn the bolts around so the threads and nuts are inside. It doesn't look as nice but it will help you when taking the tank out as you won't have to deal with rusty threads. You can cover the threads with some plastic hose  so they don't damage anything.

Tar spruce!

I actualy changed the direction of the bolts myself for aesthetic reason when l uprated them, l'll take your advice on that point and swap them back + a lick of paint on the spreaders.

We put the bolts in the back end of the frame only and bolted through the existing lashing points aswell, l have also put some load straps from lashing points on top of the wheel arch around the frame for good measure. There was no moving anything this way.

With hindsight l could of done this myself, except for refabing the frame. Still dont regret having it done by someone more knowledgeable though.

Realy made up its finaly done! Only thing is its brought more work with it as now l want change everything else in the van to suit the new tank.

glad you got it sorted paul! :)

however are you not overloading the back axle with a 650L tank positioned where it is?
price higher/work harder!

Looks great.

You could change the nuts & bolts to stainless steel if you wanted to avoid the rust. Or just grease the threads.

Cheers daz and thanks for the pics!

I dont think l am overloading the rear axle, according to some drawings spruce posted in another thread l made about the tank previously its about right.

With the weight of the engine and two of us in the front, and then the weight of the storage behind the tank it evens it out nicely over the two axles.

I am removing the two tables in the back that the reels sit on to reduce the weight further soon.
