aluminium poles
« on: June 10, 2006, 09:57:47 am »
went to BQ yesterday to see some  poles they have in stock,  one pole  in particular cought my eye, it was an aluminium 3 section 13ft, it was incredibly light, it uses hozelok type locks for the pole, any section can be removed cuting it down to a size that suits, also you can add longer pole sections to make it bigger to, could not believe the price £9.99, i compared it to the £25 unger pole that was their to, it was much heavier than the cheaper one, for anyone going to buy one, it has to be a BQ WAREHOUSE and not the usual BQ,

just bought the pole from BQ and i must say its fantastic, half the weght of the extender poles, easy to ajust, and you can add longer poles if required,  heres the shop code for it,

telescopic pole price code 4038755500199   £9.98

Have you tried adding any of the larger Unger pole extensions to the B&Q base sections ?

Hi Joe,and Jeff,just a query.With what you`ve seen at B@Q what height do you
Recon you could get to `mixing and matching` with Unger pole sections.Funnily
Enough I`ve written to Jeff privately regarding Unger base sections. For lightness
Up to perhaps 20 – 22 feet icluding body height Mr.Longarm from Cleaning Systems
Takes some beating although more expensive perhaps, also the section locking
Mechanisms are not easily replaceable if at all.Any chance of reaching anywhere near
50 feet with B@Q / Unger ?

Thats one prob with Bxxxy B&Q the bring stuff out for the summer then put in a stores  till next year if its seasonal. And they discontinue lines at the drop of a hat. At least with a wc supplier you know your going to be able to get the products and the backup service. :) Up the suppliers  :o :o :o

Hi Joe
I bought a gold coloured pole from B&Q about six years ago, and it is still going stong, it is used every two weeks on my shops.
Today I had a look at the inside of the cone section, and I must say it is better made than an unger pole system, the unger pole system has two little collers for the screw section, and the B&Q pole has a push in section that the cone screws onto. Never had to replace it,against two lots of relacements for the unger pole. Difference in pole price was the B&Q pole was half the price of my unger pole.
The only difference I found was in the winter, and the B&Q pole is bl**dy freezing, unger one being warmer to the touch, Don't ask me why, but a pair of gloves cure's the problem.

jeff, what i do for aluminium poles, is buy foam bike handles, they just slide up the pole, great and cheap, last for ages,

Hi Joe
Its not the handle thats cold, its when your sliding the pole up and down your hands, as I said the unger one is warmer to the touch than the B&Q one, it must be made of a different material. But thr B&Q one out lasts the unger one.

yes, i did notice that with the poles, it could be the fact they are slightly fluted poles,
