But it is good enough for what i want , had the drill layin about with knackered batteries , thought i would make use of it and slap it on the leisure battery , not overly powerfull and not a new idea i know , but lets see how it fairs !

What size bearings did you use on your reel modification.

These are the ones i used, once they are slid over the spindle/manifold i had to push in a small bent washer to take up a bit of slack between the 2 surfaces , this is for the petal leaf reels , i take it yours are the same ?

I really like that, love how you use the bearings, I'm going to have a go at knocking one up. You need to get a socket to fit the spindle, not use the nut. The torque will eventually twist the threaded bolt out of the plastic spindle. You also need to secure the drill somehow, if the hose snags on the way back in the drill will twist in your hand and could damage your wrist.

Have you got a pic of how you have secured the frame in your van. Usually I use rapid rail in the roof and hang the reel from that but a friend wanted me to set it up in his van. I didn't have the room in the roof space to do it so had to tell him no. Your solution would work though but I can't figure how you've secured it upright from the video. Cheers, love diy engineering like this.

Drill wont last long

I use a drill connected to a 12v leisure battery and I've had the same drill for 7 years and it winds in 2 reels all day every day.

Think you mean slumpbuster think his name was Clive. Yes that's when I started using a drill, it's the same one I can't believe it's lasted all this one pulling in two hoses everyday, it's got to break one of these days.

each to their own.

personally i dont see the point if you already have a fixed quality manual reel.their virtually effortless to reel in(my cox reel is anyway).mind you lots of days im only reeling in 3 or 4 times a day.sometimes less but even on days where its 10-12 times a day its easy.
price higher/work harder!
