I work like Granville, light rain drizzle not hitting the windows.

Don't know how you guys stand in the rain working getting soaked that would make me miserable.

Over the last couple of years I have increased prices and dumped work.

I have a must have wage, that i almost always get on the worst weather weeks, then obviously work as much as possible to get more done.

And obviously earn more.

I think if I had to work in bad weather I wouldn't be doing this job.

I must be a right wuss 😓

also lee its 5 or 6 hours out in it.years ago i used to work 10 hour days on a plant nursery all year round in all weathers(the winters used to be worse in the late 80s too!) so window cleaning for 5 or 6 hours is a doddle.

just think when your miles behind by this weekend.all my work will be up to date and ill have a nice relaxing well earned weekend off.

this month has been my highest ever earning month in 24 years of window cleaning due to the add ons ive cleaned on top of my regular work and other extra window cleaning work ive picked up.happy days.

Just to be clear. I did not use swear words l only used part of a swear word and filled the gaps with x's. Possibly not much different from saying "friggin hell" or feckin nora" as someone on here uses(slacky) even calling people poofs which could be said that offends certain peoples.

I actualy used the exact same word as feckin but replaced the e with an x. The other word has even been used in this post but was "overlooked".

Its not exactly the same, so we adults would recognise it but 7 year olds would not. You could say they were already "moderated".

I do use swear words from time to time, never in front of a customer, never in front of children.

Besides l wouldnt want my children looking in on an adult forum.

I have had over 10 years of this and always found it frustrating. I've tried many things over the years and the one thing that I have learnt is that it is a waste of time trying to explain to customers by discussing it with them. Over the last couple of years here is the method I follow.....
Custy cancels just before the clean. if it's due to construction work or where property is locked up due to them being away I don't mind. I just do them 4 weeks later when I'm next in area. If they ask me to come back in a week I politely tell them no because I'm not in their area then. If they cancel for no good reason i.e there's bad weather on the way then I make a note against the customer notes - same applies ....see you in 4 weeks. If it happens again in the next 6 months I politely suggest that if thats the service they require then they should call me when they want ad-hoc cleans done at 50% extra. If this doesn't resolve the problem I'm happy to suggest that I am not the right window cleaner for their needs and bid them farewell.

In the end l spoke to the customer and said let me know if you would prefer 8 weekly as the round is full and l could give the space to someone else(the space she leaves when she prefer not this time) .

She replied"4 weeklys fine-just not this time"

Some people..........

im new to this and only got a small amount of custys at the sec but worked all Wednesday in the pouring rain and no one had a problem with me doing it whilst raining. In a normal situation I would probably have swapped my day but couldn't this week and it didn't kill me.

I think 2 strikes is a fair rule. no point messing about

Think you will find most customers put up with cleaning in the rain because they do not want to lose the wc they trust and are afraid if they lose you they will find it difficult to find another.....or you might blacklist them....some are just embarrassed  to  mention it.....and of course you sack the rest.....you advertise pure water cleaning yet yesterday the rain round here was 04 hitting the Windows.

Yep following on from what you said Daz.  I've also worked all week in the rain, fully upto  date, im now off until Monday, because i worked in whatever the weather was.  Never behind with work, never playing catchup, never earning less.

Oh and a customer even brought me out some beers yesterday even though it was tipping down bless her.

Ive worked, like so many wfp's with a water tds over 010 and have had no problems what so ever. So rain water of 004  isnt and wont cause a problem.

Its about educating your customers. For instance if you get talking to your customers the next time you clean. We often talk about the weather, but just throw in there, "have you noticed how your windows stay clean" for instance.........so therefore your tapping into their thinking and correcting any doubts.

It's rained all week except Monday and its raining again today.

I must admit I've always been put off with rain but when it's a week like this I simply can't afford to have the week off.

That being said I didn't work on Wednesday..it was heavy rain non stop all day and the windows were drenched in it.

The other days it was overcast, drizzly, some shower  and little wind so not much hitting the glass so I have worked.

I won't manage a full weeks work but still get 4 days out of the 5 which I'm happy with.

There has to be a line drawn somewhere and for me heavy rain and wind has to be it.

8weekly

your second guessing mate.have you asked them all?could it be that it doesnt make a difference and the windows are still clean when you ve done them?

we all have to make a living.i actually think some think "now theres someone whos not afraid to work come rain or shine!" ;D ;D ;D

also with a busy schedule of work, customers cant call me unreliable. ;)

loads of work this week had bird muck, bird strikes, muck from the owners jet washing their patio, pollen spots and general dirt.all cleaned off now so ive done my job well.

I feel for the ones who havent earnt all week and because of that they succumb and end up working in the rain because they cant afford not to.
So they end up doing so anyway, so why not just relent and realise you can anyway, in stead of stressing all week.

No need to ever work in heavy rain especially if accompanied with high winds just as there's no need to let a messer dictate when
and how you should clean their windows.
I know when the weather is suitable for me to leave a decent clean on the day and I know when it isn't, I wont clean if I believe
they wont be perfect on the day but I wont not clean them because there's going to be bad weather later on in the week.
Yes there will be exceptions to this such as pre arranged commercial which may have to be cleaned on the day but even then
safety will have to be considered.
Not trying to be rude but some of you guys get on like your living hand to mouth.

i know what it feels like to not work when the weathers bad,and be skint, debt up to my eyeballs too.been there too many times.also the threat of eviction(twice)hanging over me.not a nice place to be at all.it seemed like a never ending cycle at the time as it went on for years.thankfully them days are behind me now.

For me on trad work, I lost soooo many fays due to rain or snow. It used to be weeks at a time not just the odd days and that was stressful. Because in thus line of work, you cant earn it back, its lost income. Those days and even now, I cant afford to loose half a months income.  This was one of the reasons why I switched to wfp so I wouldnt loose income due to the elements.

But DryClean, in an earlier post I did make mention of obvious factors for not working in the rain.  Yet working in the rain is too fold.....no losd of income and no loss of routine or scheduled work.   All my work is 4wkly and I dont like disrupting that. So its not about beung hand to mouth as some may see it.  I mostly work mon - wed or thur depending on what section of round im on. Allowing a 3 or 4 day wknd with family. So I like my days off when I choose, not changing them due to a bit of the set stuff falling from the clouds
