Rain also does not always hit the windows.

I only work in light drizzle - did today - or if a bit showery I just dodge them if they get heavy.

I weeded out the pain in the rear customers years ago and tell them my terms when taking them on nowadays. (Which include that I will attend to any rain - dirtied windows if they call me within 24 hours - I have not had one call me back in five years but the fact they know they can gives them reassurance.)

Never had a problem.
This is very true unless there is a strong wind the rain actually doesn't hit the glass anyway. If i'm honest if i get a customer saying that, it depends what mood im in and what kind of customer they've been to me to how i react.
I generally say i will this time but please be aware that i cant keep them on if you keep turning me away because of a bit of rain etc. And if they say why basically i put it to them if they were offered 2 jobs exactly the same and they pay the travel money  and make the effort etc to get to the place of work, 1 says every day you turn up you will work and get paid and the other one says i will let you know once you've turned up if there is any work which one would they choose.
Its not as long winded as above but you get the idea  ;D
fortunately its very rare i get turned away anymore anyway.

First of all, can a Moderator please tell me why Pauls comment was Modded?  This isn't a public place where customers can be present, why can't we have freedom of speech to swear if we want to?  :(  Maybe, it's just me but if you want to swear on a forum you shouldn't be punished for it.  This isn't me admitting that i want to swear on here btw lol.

MOD Note: See explanation further down the page following Chris Turner's post.

Back on topic.  Full Days windows cleaned today, medium-heavy rain all day, 1 or 2 customers weren't totally impressed, told them the usual, if the windows dont dry to normal standard(never ever happens), il come back to reclean.  Other than that all other customers were totally fine, plus i had 3 walk ups in pouring day rain and got 3 new customers.

Probably my most enjoyable working day so far this week and it was raining.  Let's hope it rains tomorrow guys  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't like swearing on here. Occasionally I'd like to use stronger language but I self moderate.

Is there any reason to swear really though?! What just because we are adults that gives the right to swear or freedom of speech  allows it.  ::)roll ::)roll

Sometimes we worry too much what the customer may or may not think. To the point where we think its a bad idea to work in the rain.
Yet how many times have you picked up new work in the rain

Exactly.
Iv just had a 3 day ban for swearing even though it wasn't directed at anyone in particular so why should it cause offence??
Some of us swear alot in our day to day lives so naturally it would stream into our written txt.
People need to lighten up, including some of the mods on here.
I can't believe in this day and age when you can see almost every shocking thing imaginable online, some people still get offended by the word Modded - see the post below for explanation-  on a forum.

Because forum admin has a zero tolerance on swearing. Their playpen, their rules.

You can see the sticky at the top of the any other non cleaning -related topics section. It applies forum wide.

Seems a bit silly to me, setting up a forum for a bunch of illiterate, alcoholic, inbred, depressed souls on the lowest rung of society ( window cleaners ) then asking them not to swear.

Yebbut besides the rest of us low level "illiterate, alcoholic, inbred, depressed souls on the lowest rung of society ( window cleaners )" we have you to lead us to higher things, Chris!

It's a joke bud, don't take it personally.
I'm just quoting the typical stereotype of a window cleaner.

Before l do anything rash, what does everyone else do in this situation? How much do you stand for?

Over the years I've always dumped the customers that mess me about, and I've ended up with mostly excellent customers.

My experience with the ones that I was slow to dump is that they didn't improve over time, apart from the odd exception.

Carpet cleaners and gardeners are lower than window cleaners.

Not just the "Not today"ers.

Anyone who emails us and doesn't use the words "please" or "thank you" turns out 90% of the time to be a bad customer long-term.

Anyone who messes us about for any reason whatsoever on the first clean, whether unlocking gates or paying promptly, again, 90% likely to be a problem long-term.

Thats the beauty with experience.  On some earlier posts, people have said not to act or judge in haste. But the truth of the matter, from experience you kinda know how it will end up and I simply for one dont want to go down those paths again. So nipping it at the start allows you to build the rounds you want so your not forever filtering your work.
