VAT on a school job?
« on: June 11, 2017, 10:24:29 am »
Hi all,
Need some advice, I've got a job coming up cleaning carpets in a school. Do I add VAT onto the invoice as I'm not sure if schools are exempt from VAT.

Thanks in advance
Chris

You charge them VAT the same way you would charge any other customer. It’s for the school to work out whether or not they can reclaim the VAT.

I used to work in a school as Business Manager, VAT is not an issue as they don't pay it.

It's got nothing to do as to whether the client is VAT registered or not.

Either you are VAT registered - in which case you have to charge the VAT - or you are not registered for VAT in which case you can't charge it in any case

No your not as it is not your problem!  I am saying if you are VAT registered in this Country the status of the individual or Company you are charging has no bearing.  They have to pay you plus VAT!   How they account for it or get it back is not your concern end of!  It is their problem to deal with!

If you are VAT registered you have to charge VAT regardless of your customers status. They have to pay you then you hand that VAT over to the government,
