Whether to get a caged or rachet strapped tank?
« on: May 29, 2017, 09:38:36 am »

Spoke to a guy who said he could fit me a caged tank.  He said they are better because you can mount your RO and hoses on top so they aren't all over the place like with a rachet strapped tank.

What's important for me is to have lots of extra room in my van for other jobs- mowers, wood and power tools when I do other types of work so I thought a racheted tank could be taken out as could my pump etc to allow for room for other jobs or using van to go on holiday etc.   Would a caged tank with all removable gear taken out still have enough room?    Got Peugot Expert

Yes it can be taken our but what a ball ache  that would be taking it out. If you don't have room for your extra gear with the tank in place you need a bigger van or a trailer.

That said why can you not build some storage space on top of, to the side of or being your ratchet strapped tank? You could build some racking/shelving on top or simply use hooks and bungees etc.

My ratchet strapped 500l tank is up against the bulk head but behind on the floor is enough gap to stash things in. To the left side on the door I have a generator with a wet van on top. On top the tank in have my gutter vac and poles plus a plastic storage drawers. To the right side door is electric pressure washer. Then that leave plenty of space for my petrol pressure washer and carpet cleaning gear which comes in and out when needed.  There's no ads of space is most vans yiu just need to utilise it better. My step ladders and other bits are tight against the internal roof with a cargo net

I have a ratchet strapped tank using the existing eyelets, therefore no need to put a modification on insurance. It's a lay flat tank so the centre of gravity is spread across the whole back part of the van, and I built a fibreboard table to go on top of it to mount a fixed hose reel and gubbins.

Hose reel is mounted chest hight no need to bend over just open door and grab and go.

Yeah I could build a removable table to go on top of the tank out if wood and mount ro and hoses all in tank area like the caged ones I guess.
