Been looking into making a custom power box but using Lithium-ion to run a ice air cooler for the dogs( in van) and of course the pump and potentially a powered reel, phone, ipad etc, etc..... Lithium battery technology have a good edge on conventional batterys...Ok they cost alot more to buy initially but there are a very good trade off....worth investigating chaps.... am sick and tired buying battery's every 12 to 18 months!...
A 100amp lithium ion battery costs £950.00 locally.
Yes there are units for £650.00 on Ebay.
My 110amp leisure battery lasts about 3 years and costs £80.00. A lithium Ion battery will have to last me 36 years to break even if the prices stayed the same. I'll be dead before then.
Benefits of Lithium Ion.
I can keep pushing a high charge into the battery until its fully charged. A lead acid battery will only accept a lower and lower charge as it gets close to fully charged.
I can expect to use 90% of the battery charge before I see a drop off in performance. It tolerates a full discharge where my lead acid battery won't. My leisure battery should only be used to 50% charge for longevity. So in my case I would have 35amps more capacity with a Lithium battery than I have with my lead acid leisure battery.
My lead acid battery needs to be fully recharged asap. So does a lithium ion battery. In both cases leaving them flat will damage them.
Its lighter than my lead acid battery.
If it cost £200 I might give it a go, but not £950.00. I don't think the difference is justified for me anyway.
