Why some want a discount
« on: May 09, 2017, 02:26:01 pm »
Please educate me. Why is it that some people before they even see what you do expect a discount.
I do find it offensive that my work is discounted just because I am perceived as worth- less to these people. And if I said anything I am a racist bigot. Mad I am at this moment.
Or is that we charge more to offer a discount. I have not got time for these games. I give the best price the first time. IF I wanted less I would charge that amount first time round.
The next offender of this transgression. I am going to ask:" what makes him or her so special that I should work for less "and see what response I get.

Why are you so angry about it? Just say no and move on.

It's in there nature to barter and mess tradesmen about. That is why so many give these sort a wide birth.

Because everyone is always wanting to get something of higher value for less.

Just look at the DFS advertising. There is always a last stock sale. And it's always a before price of 3995 and marked down to 999 or something. The truth is; it never was on at 3995 and it always was going to be retailed at 999. It's just the stupid mentally of people now.

I am just too old for all the games. Am I supposed to understand all the different cultures?

The price is the price.

If they don't like it they can get somebody else.

Thats the thing, its cultural. Us Brits are rubbish at it. But if youve got the gutts to do it, then do so. The only time brits haggle  is either buying a second hand car or buying a house.
In actual fact you should try it when buying  any electrical stuff as well.

However saying that, it does my nut in when they do ask but ive learnt to add another fiver on top of the price. If they dont barter then thats great. If they do barter i get them to throw in a coffee n biscuit and i still get the originl price i wanted. Win win.
Its about time people learnt cultural negotiations 😉😉

More worrying is arranging "regular" cleans.

Always, always, did I say always? - Charge loads more for a first clean - whatever reassurances you get - however definite they are you turn up the second time after getting all the crap off first time and it's "not today mate" or "I didn't (my wife didn't) agree to regular".

Any exceptions? Maybe if a really good custy recommends you - and even then add on 50%.
It's a game of three halves!

I used to let it bother me years ago these days pricing takes minutes on houses,I say my price say do you want me to fit you in or do you want to call me. If you want to end up with what you want price it 20% higher than your normal price if they quibble you can smile to yourself when cleaning it knowing you ain't really giving them any so called discount lol

I don't want to work for these people as they want everything for nothing and have special requirements and never honour their commitments to a second clean as someone else noted. I think they try to aggravate me far too hard. With all the crap. I use to buy from a small hardware shop and had to drive past the home base to get there. I stopped buying because his fella was so pushy and would not let me browse but followed me around all the time. All I wanted to see is what he had that I might need in future so stop shopping. It must be a culture thing but it did annoy me no end.

What gets me is when they ask how much for just the windows above ground floor. It usually sets alarm bells ringing for me!!

I have plenty of work anyway so if they don't accept my price it's not a problem.

A friend of mine Sam was moving away from the area and so passed alot of his work to one of his friends. An English friend, young lad at 19 whos done trad work for about a year and so it would help him to start his own round. But hes BLACK!!! In 2017 the amount of people who was extremely rude to this lad who sam was introducing them too....some point blank, looking straight at Sam and not even acknowledging this lad said  "Why have you bought this black (some even said n****r) to my door!!" And then slammed the door in their faces...

The ignorance of some people is umbelievable.

One of my favourite customers is Indian.  Great guy, great payer.

Some of my worst customers have been the typical council estate benefit claiming white folk. Never any money and any excuse not to pay.

There's scum in every culture

Absolutely!!
I have some great white british customers who pay on time and some even always tip after every clean. I have a great customer who has a coffee and a slice of cake waiting for when ive finished cleaning inside windows etc.
Then i have all my polish customers who everyone of them have paid on time and all work.
But then all my messers have been english folk. Once houve mastered cultural negotiations i havent had any problems.

Next time I go to the corner shop and buy a coke I will haggle or even the curry den or pizza shop offer them half price. Can not wait to try this.  I was told you never haggle on a service as you cannot bulk purchase service.
