The chicken or the egg?
« on: May 04, 2017, 07:23:22 pm »
Having read some recent posts on here depression and related conditions seem to be prevailent among us(myself included to a  mild degree) .

So now Im wandering  does cleaning windows/being self employed bring this out in people? Or are people that have these tendancies more inclined to start a self employed role such as window cleaning?

Or is this forum a small part of the bigger picture? (Probably so)

There seems to be a lot more "conditions"around nowadays, if you listen to the media(which i avoid doing personaly but do like the radio so some exposure is inevitable) there always seems to a new report out telling us that such and such a thing is on the rise.

I have this idea that its not so much things are on the rise more likely its our "awareness" of said things has risen greatly due to the internet and information provided upon it.

My how the world is changing today, makes me sound old (38) but I have witnessed so much change its incredible realy.

If i would of whipped an iphone out in high school i would of been james bloody bond!

What will the next ten years bring us?? Exciting stuff and I believe the internet has had a major role to play raising our awareness of all sorts of stuff. I mean realy I would never of been a window cleaner if it hadnt of been for the great school of youtube and this forum, I can definatly say I wouldnt be the man I am today without the stuff I learn online, it has enriched my mind.

So back to the point, is there a link between the type of people we are(self employed window cleaners) and the conditions we experience. Is it a cetain personality trait that has bought these two things together?

Or more importantly did mrs jones at number 46 spike my brew with lsd today.......mmmmmm............

I don't think it has anything to do with it.  There's depressed people all over the world.

Its just more common than you thought.  Whilst reading half a dozen or so people on a forum day they are depressed there's 100's of other forum users who haven't so there you go.

For guys working on their own window cleaning can be lonely, when working in a team environment you get a bit of banter
the odd laugh and it just makes for a happier working day.
So yes there would be times when this job wouldn't help your mental state.
